I got an old Diesel and I need help...

It is an old looking thing. It is locked up with piston at the top. It need to knwo waht to do to get it loosened up. I dont want to just crank on it. What should I use to get it cleaned and free spinning. Then where do I go to find the right compression range for getting the first run. From there where do I go and wht do I listen for to get it tuned right. I have very little experience with these. I am just want to try it out goof around with it.

I have a China made Silver swallor 1.5. Runs on the stand but not in the plane(shoestring) I have since heard that the quality of these is very up and down.

Any tips would be helpful.

First thing I'd try is to remove the backplate and squirt fuel in the intake, exhaust, and crankcase. Let it set for a few minutes and see if that helps.
If that does not work, clean it, remove any plastic parts, and heat it up in the oven (300 for 5 min?) to loosen the old oil.
If you or a friend have a crock pot setup for engines, that should work also.

After reassembly, you could tighten the compression screw until the contra piston touches the piston, then back off two turns. That should get you in the ballpark. Don't do this if you have an extremely tight contra piston. For those cases, flip a few times, tighten compression 1/4 turn, repeat until it pops would be better.

Silver Swallow - check for leaks around the needle. At one time their tolerances for needles was a bit loose. Perhaps some tubing or loc-tite, depending on what type needle it uses.

hi Dennis, I replaced the needle valve assembly on my CS with one from a PAWdiesel. It is better and dosn't leak, besides the needle valve retainer clip that CS uses is really bad copper foil.Also these motors take forever to break them in. really expect somewhere in the area of 3/4 hours till they are ready to run reliably.
