I always approach the flight line with only a push-on NiCd glo starter, a 4-way wrench, a small shot of priming fuel and a spare glo plug. The prop wrench goes in my right pocket, along with the prime syringe. The NiCd goes in my left pocket, making sure nothing else in in there to short out the battery.

My pit crew has nothing to clean up after me, and I don't lose anything.

I usually wear my fatigues. Plenty of pockets! And I do keep the nicad in a separate pocket with the chicken stick, when I'm using one. No metal to ground the battery is important. Ask me how I know that.
Of course, I usually forget to take the battery out and put it in the flight box until after I get home and have everything packed away.
