I've sent him some e-mails too and had no reply. Don't know what gives out there in CA except heavey testing and trimming sessions for the Special Edition.

P.S. I think there all at the NW Regionals this Memorial day weekend. I'm courious to see how the 'Spec Ed' is flying. Hope you do well against the Mustang Ted!

Doug and Jim.

First of all my apologies for any delays or apparent ignoring of your posts. Things have been real hectic around the Fancher compound this year and my computer has been giving me fits to boot. What time I've had available for toy airplane related activities has been seriously taken up with Special Edition "editing"!

Jim, I've got to apologize to you especially because I don't recall precisely what email you're referring to. That particularly ungrateful since I owe you a bunch for providing a name for the new airplane that wouldn't make me look like a total idiot after naming the late, lamented Pond Scum the "FINAL EDITION"! Please resend and to the best of my ability I'll try to pony up a reasonable response.

Doug, same to you except I've a bit to add in a generic fashion. I'm well aware of the e-mail to which you refer and it sort of needs a special type of answer.

First of all, I totally respect your right to your point of view on the BOM and so forth. There is absolutely no personal animosity regarding our differences of opinion ... although I purposely tried to refrain from using names in the submission to which you refer from the deleted thread.

The bottom line, however, is that we're unlikely ever to convince the other to change their mind on the subject and I've little inclination to pour gasoline on a potentially flammable situation between us one on one. I know you're sincere in your position and I am equally sincere about my own. Lengthy give and takes between us is likely to be counterproductive and lead to personal animosities I've no desire to develop. I'd prefer that we continue to respect each other's skill and dedication to the event and accept we aren't going to influence each other in any significant way.

There is a difference, however, when we are involved in discussing the issue on a public forum like Len's. Herein, although I am just as aware as in private that I'm unlikely to convince you of the "error of your ways", the need to rebut and plead my case is driven by the effect that differing points of view, available to curious minds wanting to know, can have on the eventual direction our event may take. As a result, although I'd rather be doing other things, I feel a responsibility to address my point of the view aggressively so that those who read the thread will be exposed to both sides of the issue. This latter position is politics. The former is private between two friends who need to be just a little cautious to avoid a rift in that friendship.

I happen to believe that the airplanes in stunt and, tangentially therefore, the requirement that people build them and get credit for doing so, is more important to both the history and future of the event than is the pattern itself. I believe I have and could again make the case for this point of view. As a result, I will continue to lobby in public for what I feel is essential to the long term well being of the event we both love.

I'm certain you will do the same and we will publically be at odds on that particular subject. I'm hopeful that by keeping that discourse in the public arena and avoiding unproductive mano a mano confrontations we can continue to disagree, support or personal point of view where it will influence those whose minds might not be as solidified as our own, and continue to respect and enjoy each other for what we share while doing so.

I made this statement publically because I'm sure there will be more opportunities for us to vociferously support our positions. I'd like everyone to know that our disagreement on this particular aspect of our mutual avocation does not in any way detract from our respect for the other's right to their opinion or our personal respect for each other.

p.s. Jim. The S.E. did just fine. I was very pleased to have scored one point more than the Mustang in the first round and one point less in the second. Our total for two rounds was exactly the same. I am very excited about the performance of the S.E., especially when the competition was held in less than perfect conditions and the airplane had only about 20 flights total on it. Another hundred or so prior to the WCs and some small trim refinements and it should be very competitive. I guess I don't have to tell anyone that Paul will be as well, do I? If I can be competitive with Paul and Billy, the American team will do just fine.

Thank you for the well thought out reply.

You are very correct about having respect for one another.

However my personal note was not an attack on you at all but an aggresive discussion.

After a few days of this on my mind and some different lines of thought. I am just about ready to give it up all together and just get back to worrying about me and my building. That is all I really have time for now and fumes over BOM and who really abides by it is wasted time and energy. I know what the book says and I know what it means so I will stick to it and so be it.

PS I think your new plane looks really good and I am sure you will be in top form for "The big SHOW"

PSS You are a pilot, er...retired pilot(CONGRATULATIONS), Why is there a news paper trend to your names of your models? What is the history there?

Oh, I never thought it was, Doug. My entire point is I just don't have the time or energy to get involved in lengthy discussions on subjects privately when we both pretty much know what the other thinks on the subject. In the public forum I feel obligated to express my point of view because I feel strongly about it and want to insure that others are aware there are such points of view. Never meant to suggest there was animosity.

It all started with the idea for Final Edition for the name of the supposedly last "pro" stunt model from me. The San Francisco newspaper (a rag, but it's all we've got) is called the Chronicle. Well, chronicle also means a story of record of some facet of history. Ted Fancher is from the San Francisco area, our paper's the Chronicle, the phrase Final Edition is newspaper related and also described my attitude about the airplane and my intention to phase out my active career (the historical perspective). Ergo, the words San Francisco Chronicles on the airplane is the plural form, not the possessive thus stating via punctuation that the term is actually related to the history of a stunt flyer from the bay area, not that it is somehow an actual edition of the newspaper.

Way to0 esoteric and convoluted, but it sounded good at the time!

Well, when I stumbled into a place on the team and a new airplane seemed to be mandatory I was left with the possiblity of getting egg on my face regarding the name. Thankfully, Jim came up with the Special Edition name which neatly solved my problem.

Gee Ted, That story is a hell of a lot better than the one about the smoke comming out of the inboard wing of someones plane.
