Question
#1.IS there a primer in rattle can form that can be used on top of Epoxolite and under dope?
#2.What kinds of PRIMERS work?....Brand names! "

Scott:

BRODAK makes a sealer /primer that, if used sparingly, is terrific! Too much and you will be making something very heavy, with some wierd properties. Windy thins it about 50/50 and brushes it at times... thins more if spraying.

sherwin Williams Sherwin Williams packages its lacquer primer for K-mart for $2.00 a can. Also, any Pep Boys will have Plastikote Primer in a spray can. These are essentially lacquer-based primer-surfacer in a spray can. This would be good over Epoxolite. Nitrate dope also works fine.

Scott, I gotta say that I think you're better off using clear with corn starch, talc or zinc stearate in it. Kitty Litter would probably work also (fresh) . Steve

I have used Rustoleum gray automobile primer with no problem over epoxolite fillets. Wet sands well in 15 minutes and Rustoleum and Lusterkote go over it well. Walmart sells it.
I have not tried any dopes over the Rustoleum primer. Nil's probably has and may weigh in on this issue.

Brad. Have you tryed Sig nitrate under Brodak Dope?
This is the way I would like to go. Scott

Nitrate is the "universal" basecoat. Sig dope is butyrate, so is Brodak. Nitrate should be fine. I would skip the butyrate dope altogether. But that's me...

Before you use any primer, apply liberal amounts of sandpaper to the epoxolite. I prefer #80 grit myself. Anything less is a waste of time. Then, clean around the area with naptha to remove any traces of the mineral oil that is a by-product of the epoxolite after it is cured.
Also, remember that any laquer based primer that comes in an aerosol can has a film strength equal to or greater than dope, so dust it on lightly using many coats to prevent your fillets from lifting.

Thanks Alice......REMEMBER I took a viedo of him doing the Fillets? WELL..Since I don't have $$$$$$ and I have Nitrate I was hopeing to get an answerin this dirERECTION!!!!!LOL

Looks like I'll use Sig Nitrate with cornstarch then go from there.

WHAT thinner should I use? Brodak, Aero gloss?
