just wanted to thank the good people on this forum, and Len the host, for their helpful posts and good behavior on line. I just cashed out of a lathe/machining mailing list because 150 out of the first 185 messages were diatribes for and against the education system- not the machine I am interested in working with that's for sure. even at it's worst, the BOM threads were nowhere near this bad, and at least it was about something in the rules.

so once again, thanks and keep up the good work.

Ya, I also frequent other boards and sometimes things really get outta hand.. This is one of the tame ones with or without BOM discussions.

I also quit the mini-lathe discussion board when the discussion degenerated as to who was worse, Stalin or Hitler. When others tried to get the topics more focused on the topic of minilathes, they were "out-voted".

I get the impression that sometimes these boards start to become the focus of the lives of some people, as opposed to simply a forum to discuss topics of focused interest. Oh well....

The old Usenet tradition was that the mentioning of Hitler was the signal for a thread to end. So people would mention Hitler in a non-sequitur sort of way, as a joke, to end a thread, when the discussion got pointless.
