Ringmaster Jr / custom.#0 source
I have a set of Ringmaster Jr. plans from Bill Schmidt and a set of the Custom Ringmaster 19-35 Plans.

Using both sets of plans I wanted to end up with a custom elongated wing (extra bays on each tip) and twin fuselage Ringmaster Jr. If its weight is just average, will C*x .09 medallions be enough power? I have no experience with this engine nor the TD .09 but I now have a pair of each via ebay. I have always used OS 15 II or III on single engine planes the size of the Ringermaster Jr. in the past.

If at a later date I do a Ringmaster Jr. size Flying Uncle Sam would you recommend the trusty old OS 15 or step up in displacement? I do want to stay with old loop scavenged engines.

Thanks for your help and advice.

You bet. The Cox .09s were among the more powerful of their era, the Medallions should be way more than enough and in fact might be too much. The TDs will turn it into a rocket.
In the second case, the OS 15 is more than enough power for any Jr. Ring' in fact their are modern .049s that are more than too much power.

I agree that 2 cox .09s will be plenty of power, maybe too much. I have flown a stock Ring Jr. with the Medallion .09 on 52' lines with good results. Same plane with a Fox .15 Schneurle is overpowered. You are only increasing the wing area a modest amount and adding the weight of a 2nd fuselage / engine.

2 TD .049 /.051 would probably be suffcient with a bit lower total weight. 2 Norvel .061 would surely be more than enough power. I understand wanting to use the engines you have, but would suggest short tanking the first few flights, it may be pretty fast with both .09s cranking!

Here is a pic of my Ring Jr / Fox .15, built in '85 or so. Still flying - but lots of scab patches and half rib repairs under that latest coat of film.

And a real Ring Twin Rocket would be two Norvel .074s!

Or a pair of the Cyclon .049s.

Dear JEC,
Please bear in mind that the Ringmaster Jr. is in fact a 1/2A
size model. Really it is actually too small for TD .049s..
maybe a Medallion .049 would be right for the Ring. Jr . So if
you want to scale up for twin engines, consider the model's
wingloading. My latest Ringmaster Jr uses a PAW.049 deluxe diesel
weighs 7.2 ozs and flys very well on 45'x .008" lines. I have a
much older Ringmaster Jr that is built from a stock kit...and is
powered by an AM 1.0cc diesel. it weighs approx 10 ozs and flys very
well on 40'x .008" lines. the AM 1.0cc has about the same power as
a Cox Black Widow.. So scale your model to keep the wing loading
within reason. As others have pointed out on this Forum, smaller
displacement models need a much lighter wing loading to fly well.

Bare will also tell you this and I tend to agree with these gents. Remember you have a smallish thin wing and a profile doesn't have much drag.
I like the Jr. Ring' far better than it's larger sire, but it IS a dinky airplane for all but the lightest of the old baffle .15s.

I am drilling out the motor mounts on a partially scratch full size Ringmaster, and I think it is going to be very close to 20 ounces.
