Huntersville contest

I got back from the Huntersville, NC contest Monday evening. Just have to say it went great, except for me. First time I have actually flown past a crack up and had jitters. FLew great when time was up!!! Had a mishap with the Cardinal, so borrowed Ed Culvers Super Chipmunk for Beginners and at least didn't wreck it. Had some line tension problems, my fault, and did much better second round. After 26 years I finally got to do a stunt contest. Too many years at free flight. I learned lots and bugged a lot of people with my questions. To those that put up with me, a million thanks, and I will do better next contest. Now to memorize the pattern. Holding a piece of paper and trying fo fly in a circle just doesn't get it.

If you can get an engine to run long enough here in Huntsville - when we can fly that is - Curtis and I would be quite willing to coach you through whatever stunt pattern you would like to know Beginner, Normal, and Old Time too. We just have to get your planes up and keep them there for some entire flights! P.S. I have moved and my new phone is 882-3405. I now have a shop/garage to build in. Whoopee!

Hi Jim. I got the Cardinal to fly until the fuel was exhausted. In fact that is what "dun me in". I waved off the attempt after I totally blew the overhead 8. Then while waiting for the fuel to burn off, I started doing parts of the pattern. Heck of it is they were much better than when I was being judged. Of course!! Anyhow, there I was, at 10,000 er 60 feet and inverted and the engine quit raght now. No warning. I almost got it upright, but bang, there went the spinner, prop, and a crack in the wing at the fuselage. I have removed some of the covering and the damage is not too bad. I have another Cardinal coming and will build it stronger. Part of the problem is that nylon slider in the line adjuster. It will not stay put in certain manuevers and when it moves, there goes the tension. I am going to go to the hole type adjusters. No more sliding blocks. Later, Ty
