I'd just like to raise a glass to all those still around who took part in this momentous event and those who didn't make it.

This really brings home what Windy's love of invasion stripes is really all about!

Although I am too young to have participated in that horrible part of history, I treasure the freedom we all enjoy because of the sacrifices of so many people from many different countries. Four of my uncles went to war and fortunately they all returned safely. Others weren't so lucky. I recently inherited a war certificate from the last surviving family member who is now in a retirement home.

My father served in north Africa and Italy (under Patton), Army Ranger, and I miss him every day of my life.

The Allies did the best they could. Too many Americans were lost. I was just 11 years old, but I remember following all the news.
