dallas contest

As posted in "Upcoming Events" the Dallas Contest is June 19-20. Weather is forecast to clear up by then but even if it doesn't, that's OK because the Two Day Raffle organized by Linda G and Rachel W. will be held rain or shine. We'll be glad to see you and Ruby. Going through this raffle stuff I noticed a new type of glow driver. It's smaller than the "orange box" but still has the led's to indicate if the plug is dry or wet- about a two inch cube that includes arms to wind the leads on and a snap-keeper for the plug connector. Ol Dad (BOM) has really been putting the flights getting ready for this contest. Got the new UHP Impact working good, grinding out patterns.

Must be some money on the line or something to get Ol Dad all wound up.

Shame it wasn't July 17th - I'm in Dallas for a big software conference that week.

My first time in Dallas - and US prices are much better than Aussie. Can anyone recommend any good shops for C/L things (handles, kits, engines, etc.)?

The 17th is Finals day at our Nats, most of our people will returning right after that. I can't go to the Nats this year, so I will be available. Give me a call.(day or night) Maybe we can get together and go flying!

Mikes Hobby shop and super store is probably your best bet. They are located on 35E north of the intersection with 635 about 1-2 miles. They are on the west side of 35E the interstate. The exit will be for sandylake road. You have to get north of the building so you can go the right way on the one way frontage road. Call them 972-245-8379 and ask for Bishof he is the CL flyer of the bunch. They have a web site

I just went to their site and one would think that they never even heard of CL, not so, they have 30 or so kits and a number of CL motors. There is a huge selection of hardware many of which can be used for CL. About the best we have as far as CL is concerned. They have a rather extensive indoor RC car track complex as well.

The weather was hot and calm winds today. Its near sunset now and its stunt heaven outside.

Had a little concern pertaining to the condition of the facility this AM but when I took the lawn tractor out to do a little edging I found the Dallas Parks crew in full tilt. Two huge tractors operated by skillful operators did a fine job. Even did the fence lines with string trimmers. Thanks to Ken Beam and all the crew for the great job on the field. Y'all come! Lots of C/L stuff also, but not as much overall inventory of all modeling types as Mikes. Probably more that is specific to C/L. I like to check both. Good folks both places.

The conference is at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Conference Centre, which is in Grapevine - Dallas/Fort Worth area. Is this close to any of the above stores?

I had a look at the two web sites and I think I might have to buy a kit or two!! Prices are amazing!

The Gaylord site is about 15 miles from Mikes and 60 miles from Lancaster. 635 will be just north of the airport and has an intersection with the 35E that mikes is located on.

Go to this site and put in Dallas, Grapevine will be to the west and slightly north of Dallas. That should give you an idea about the layout.

The "DASH"-Dallas Aero Summer Heat for 2004 is now history. Years from now when someone walks by wearing a T-shirt inscribed "I survived the Day of the Attacking Port-o-Potties" most folks will express bewilderment. But to those of us who were there, we will nod knowingly. No one was occupying any of the "loos" when the 70 kt.+ squall came through, but the "flying one-holers" damaged four cars, including the desintigration of Bill Wilson's back window. Golf ball sized hail cannot compare to outhouses careening in an angry sky! The grounds for this meet were in the best shape I've ever seen but this humble scribe predicts even lusher turf next contest, which is Labor Day. We enjoyed outstanding attendance, outstanding competition, outstanding fellowship and friendship. Perhaps others will relate more on the flying results for the meet. Sincerest of Thankyous to all who competed, prepared, and worked so diligently in this effort- a true success by any measure- thanks to you! Respectfully submitted, dale gleason

Lets not make it sound so bad. Until 2:00 we had light winds and heat. about 2:00 a cold front went through with heavy wind and rain. After 4:00 it was stunt heaven with light winds and cool air. Sunday, it was light winds and heat all day. the contest was well attended and everyone had a great time (if your car wasn't damaged)
All in all, it was a good contest, better than many or our previous June events.
