Thunderbolt Glow Plugs

I see alot of flyers use these plugs, my question is which one do you use? The standard long, or the R/C Long?

We use R/C Longs here.

I use standards, another good thing about them they are reasonably priced. Buy a dozen and have a few years supply. Dennis

Thunderbolt make several different Glowplugs.

I personally use the "Thunderbolt HD" or the heavy duty plug, they meaning thunderbolt, tell me its designed for Tuned pipes.

Ive had no problems, change one every 300 flights or so.

We are using the Four Stroke plug.

Haven't seen any carried by the LHS. What's a good mail order source?

In a great many of my engines the standard and RC (idle bar) Thunderbolt plugs run so close to the same I can't tell any difference at all.

While plug choice seems to be regional in nature, leading me to be surprised at the choices of some, they probably surprised at what we do here, Thunderbolt plugs are used by a great majority of the fliers in the NW, possibly all at some contests.

While I have not done any plug tests for years, certainly never with mildly-tuned Stunt motors, of the plugs I have tried the O.S. #8 is a favorite. In some engines, the 20FP comes to mind, I have seen more power, although it was through bench running only.

AAAHHH THAT'S The "Fireball" Brand the he sells. I get the HOT ones. They work just as good as the T-Bolts

Something must have happened to his account. I bought a few dozen plugs,short and long, last month and his total feedback was down. But, he is selling on the bay and still has very good prices.
Incidentally Lone Star has just about the same price on a dozen. They are a very good plug for the price. Have been using these since the 50's.

I use the 4-Stroke Plug.

For what it might be worth, I, also, use the Thunderbolt 4-stroke plug. A couple of years before he died, GMA installed an ABC P/S set in my Fox 35 and he recommended that I use this plug.

Me too! Me too! I ran a T-Bolt 4cycle in the 2Star .60bb, but the R/C Long in the ST G.51, OS .46LA, K&B (#4055) .40 Stunt and Magnum XL .28. I've seen several instances where there was a magical transformation with the change to a T-Bolt glowplug. If you insist on getting them at the LHS, look for Zinger equivalents. Same plug, made by Ohlsson (no Rice) in the USA. Steve
