How to be online in Muncie?

I already paid air tickets to Muncie so my trip becomes a reality. Now comes a question how to stay online because of my work. You are all Internet compatible, so I hope someone can tell me the best way to be accessible by handy and mail? I will have my own handy connectible to my notebook. So my question is, if there is a reasonable priced way to have (prepaid?) card to handy and some useful connection to interned for three weeks only. Or is there something better or easier? Like phone in hotel or so (I have modem and also ISDN modem)? I have no idea how it goes over there.

If it's just that you have to get connected daily, the easist would be to have a WiFi connection on your laptop (D-link, Cisco, whatever) and go to a local Internet Cafe that has a wireless hot spot. If it's more of a regular need such as having to stay online for longer periods, then make sure your hotel has some sort of datalink in your room. Many now have wireless connections in the hotel that your laptop's wireless card can connect to. Another option would be to pay the hotel for the phone connection and use a modem, but that tends to get a bit pricey.

I travel all over the country and for what I need (email and SSW) dial up from the motel phones is adequate. I have found that the Super-8 motel chain doesn't charge for local calls and usually have an extra phone jack in all rooms. Pick up an Earthlink or Compuserve trial membership CD, use it for 3 weeks and cancel.

Another thought.. You could also see if there is a local ISP in Muncie with dial-up and sign up for 3 weeks. Check the local phone book when you get checked in.

Not directly connected to your question, but be aware of the 110 volt AC current and the different wall plugs they use over there...

They may have some information that can help you. They will know the local ISP's or may be able to help you in other ways (like let you use a connection if you ask nice)

When I travel , I look for hotels that have free high speed access, many do have cable modems in each room. Kinko's Copy Centers have reasonable connections at reasonable rates also. Sorry no local knoledge in Muncie.

I am in Muncie on a semi-regular basis. And I have an addiction to being in touch via e-mail.

The best way I have found is to set up your laptop wireless (802.11b or g) and then go to the Panera Bread where they have a free Wi-Fi spot. Buy a cup of coffee or something more if you're hungry and surf to your hearts content and your batteries wear out.

The Panera Bread is on McGalliard adjacent (west) to the Muncie Mall.

Panera Bread has a corporate policy that all of their locations will offer free wi-fi access. And for the most part, they do. They even have wi-fi at their locations which they don't even list on their own web site! I have been at a couple where I swear the employees didn't know it was active! In Denver earlier this year, I was going in every day and after about a week, a brand new sign appeared in their window announcing their free wi-fi!

There is another free wi-fi over near the college, called the Blue Bottle as I recall. Also a nice place to go to get a cup of coffee and use the computer, and they have electrical outlets scattered around, too.

Alas, AMA does NOT offer wi-fi access even tough they have all of the necessary infrastructure in place. I have been pestering them for over a year to add that in as a member service, so far to no avail.
