Nobler ARF with TT .25 GP UPDATE

I reported some time ago about setting this combo up to fly. After being lucky enough to get out 5 or six times recently I thought I would offer a progress report.

This baby is just about as box stock all around as you can get. I did replace the leadouts and bellcrank, added a tip weight box plus ¾ ounce of lead, and thought about removing the rudder off-set but never did, and that’s it. (I am waiting for a clevis pin to fail!!????)

Vitals:
Weight w/o fuel 41 oz.
60 Foot eye to eye .015 lines
TT .25 GP with stock R/C throttle, wired open max
Stock Muffler
Plastic “Viper” (ARF supplied) 4 oz tank, plumbed to directions, supply tube rotated as low as possible, muffler pressure to tank and overflow plugged. I am using a fuel filter.
Fireball “HOT” glow plug.
Wildcat 15% Nitro 80/20 Synth/Castor with 6 oz. Castor on top of the gallon.
MAS 10/5 Scimitar prop, balanced.

Don’t know the RPM, but it’s running in a 2 cycle at launch, that just speeds up slightly during the first lap, and then runs steady as a rock until a little burp about two laps before running out.

This thing flies great for me! Very confident tension all around and a manageable speed, somewhere close to 5 sec./lap. Suddenly I’m doing nice consecutive loops, lazy eights one after another, and inverted laps. Getting dizzy going the wrong way, but I’ll get used to that. This is a HUGE improvement for me.

I went the route over the last couple of years of flat wing trainers, Fox 35’s, Ring Master Jr.s, UKEY’s etc. When I started flying the UKEY I got into the “Asian Zone” with O.S.’s and T.T.’s and I’ll never look back. One of the biggest problems I have had is getting a good smooth running engine on a plane with good tension, so I can concentrate on flying, not worrying about starting, funny runs, etc. I’ve got an LA .25 S RNV on a UKEY now that’s just as steady as the TT, but it flies a bit faster and is harder for me to control than the Nobler.

Bottom line for me, and perhaps some other beginners, is that this has turned out to be a very good airplane combo. Easy to obtain and put together, easy to start and economical to run, and very reasonably priced both in terms of $ and time invested. I know I have gained valuable experience “going the wrong way at the start” IMHO and would not be where I am today without traveling that path, but I sure wish I had taken this shortcut sooner. Ps The soccer fields west of the Bellevue Mall on 70S (Nashville) seem to be open for the summer. I’ve been up there several evenings and a couple of weekends and not a soul in sight. The weeds aren’t bad (yet).

You may recall that I met you and Mack at the Alabama Fun Fly last fall. I gotta get my priorities in order! My wife said she saw somebody flying “a really loud, small, fast plane” up at the Bellevue field a while back. I figured it was one of the combat guys you were traveling with in AL. I don’t recall his name, but seemed like he said he lived up around Pegram or Kingston Springs. I gotta get my priorities in order…….

Was looking throught the latest Tower Talk from Tower Hobbies and noticed the price of the T.F. ARF's was lowered.

Nobler $89.99

Also found them in the Inventory Reduction listings, P#58.
Does this mean they are over-stocked or the last hurrah for
T.F. C/L ARF's???

Wouldn't know if it’s the last hurrah or not, but I think it’s a great deal for the money. You could get a TT .25 for about $53, the Nobler ARF for $90, add a couple of props and a spinner to get above $150 and then qualify for a $20.00 rebate. Seems like a lot of fun for around $130.
