BIG $$$ Vintage Diesel Combat tomorrow.....

at Arlington, WA. The usual site, for directions, see the events page on our website. Very easy to find off I-5 or Hwy. 9. Five rounds of D-Bat will be flown, and lunch will be catered by Chef Christopher Gomez. BBQ'd Teriaki Chicken bre'st*, homemade potato salad and diner rolls by Chef Chris, plus BuKu's Best Baked Beans (mild and "oh MY..." grades and Mrs. Schall's Marinated Onion Rings (per Danny Dirt), made with genuine 2Walla Sweets, by Chef Steve. Lunch will be $5. Contestants and Officials get fed first... especially Officials. C'mon out and watch D-Bat, it's a riot! Steve

Exquisite weather blessed us this year (big change), but predicted rains seemed to have held down the entries again. The winners were 1st Robert Smith, 2nd Mel Lyne, 3rd John Tompson, 4th Paul Vallins. Mr. Vallins/Cascade Aviation Corp. put in $50 for each entrant, which made for a $550 pot for prize money. Entrants paid $25, which included lunch, and paid for sanction, site insurance, sani-can, streamers, etc.

There were some incredible combat matches. D-Bat is 5 minutes, with no kills. As long as there's a streamer on one of the airplanes, the match continues for the whole 5 minutes. Even D.Dirt wandered over from the stunt circles to giggle like a kid for a whole match. This is FUN Combat!

The "Worker Bees" got their lunch free. The chow brought rave reviews, even Dirty Dan put his seal of approval on my batch of Mrs. Schall's Marinated Onions (with cukes...wow!) made with Splenda and Salt Substitute. Others marvelled over the Teriyaki Chicken, or BuKu's Best Baked Beans (in "bland" for the Brits/Canadians and in "O.M.G." for those who like their food "memorable"). Recipes are available by email.

Picture #3: The incredible "Sky Crapper" (so named by Mel Lyne). We bought a used one for $250, and can haul it on the lawnmower trailer. It costs us $20 to have it "serviced". It won't be long, before it's paid for, when the usual rental is $100+/weekend, and you are liable for damage of about $800 if vandalized. Chris said it towed well, didn't flap around, no problem. Looks very cool, going down the freeway, too! Yeah, sure! Steve

Nice looking airplanes, what are they, how fast do they fly and what engine?

The airplanes are Warlords, a 1960s vintage combat plane. They're powered by PAW .15s and chug along at the 64 mph speed limit.
By the way, I should take this opportunity to compliment Steve Helmick, Chris Gomez, Mel Lyne, Paul Vallins, Norm McFadden and all the other workers for a job well done. We all had a great time at the contest.

WOW! Youse guys must have had a great time! Luckily for you, I gave up combat some years ago (my reflexes are somewhat slower these days).
Your Porta_potty looks deadly! Did it win any matches? The motor must have been on the other side, because it doesn't show up in the photo.

The cool thing about these little wings is that they are tough, can serve as a basic trainer with slowed controls and fwd. CG, then dialed into more performance as the pilot builds skills. They can do the stunt pattern, by the way. The only real problem is that the fuel is so stinky...and clingy. Must be the castor oil. Steve
