SV 22 Picture of my new plane

After having 10 years away from the hobby I have dicided to try again. PA61 on a pipe and 62 OZ. Not too bad for just a months worth of work. This a built up wing with a dope finish, PPG clear. I am also now building the same plane with a warren truss wing and molded fuse. Trying to get to the low 50's. Hard to do when you have 22 oz of hardware. Thats engine,prop,pipe,spinner.LG,wheels,header,coupler,push rods,bellcrank,horns,tank and all the other stuff that I can't change the weight of. Drop a comment or rate it and let me know what you think.

It looks great. Wish I could build a plane in a month.....you must be retired or very highly motivated. Have you flown it yet?

I am a Harley-Davidson mechanic. Not retired yet. I will fly this wensday.

62oz should be absolutely no problem for that plane!
we had an sv11 (smaller) with a tiger 51 (i have a pa61/pipe in my new plane so believe LESS power) and that thing just flew and flew, it was what dad really got the pattern down on, and i learned a lot of the pattern on.

anyway looks good, please let us know how it flies!!

That is really sweet!!
Like Aaron said, I had a SV-11 that weighed 64 oz., and was powered by a ST G-51 muffled. It flew extremely well!
IIRC, Randy's Katana is about 58 oz., so yours should be good.
The PA 61 on pipe has more than enough power.

54 ounces will be difficult for that model when built correctly. Our Katanas are a fat 58 ounces and it would be a struggle to shave 4+ ounces off. 62 ounces is average and a good weight for that model, 58 to 60 is on the light side of what we have seen.

It brings to mind a problem I have had though-and that is how to find a three blade prop that performs the same as a given two blade.
For instance if you have a Fox 35 that flies your ship ok with, say a 10/5 top flight, what three blade prop would give you the same performance.
Eric V tried a 9/6 three blade on his Nobler today (Fox 35) and I think he is still flying 6+ second laps. Hope it finally quit and you got home before dark Eric:)

Try a Rev up EW 9.75 X 5 two blade. Three blade is too much prop.

A fox 35 doen't have enough smoke to turn a 3 blade. Thats my opinion.

That is my conclusion also based on Eric V's experimentation yesterday.
Can't speak for Eric but since his Nobler wouldn't do a loop with the 3 blade, he may have reached the same conclusion.
But it looked COOL!
