I've also just acquired a set of plans for Bob Palmer's Skyscraper, a huge (for him) full flapped stunter with his typical styling, although the wings are tapered rather than elipitical.

Has anyone got any experience building/flying a Palmer Skyscraper that I need to know?

What is a good engine for the plane?

What is the better way to hook up the flaps, with differential, as he designed or without as we would these days?

Is it a good competition machine?

Plans look great.

The Skyscraper is a good design when, as with all planes, built light for its wing size. (It is larger, so you can, and will, build heavier). He used a K&B 45 on it as I recall, but a strong 40-46 size engine should work fine (bearing weight in mind.) The ASP 53 would be a good choice, also.

And dump the differential flaps. We are trying to get rid of the wing wobble, and he built it in!

Speaking of Skyscrapers, I just aquired a Sterling Skyscraper kit in great condition at an local R/C auction. Is this a palmer design or a top Flight version of a Palmer design? Couldn't pass up the deal $15.00, even not knowing what I was getting, except for the pretty picture on the box.

Mister Palmer used a Veco .45 (lapped iron piston, probably a vibrator) which evolved into a .50 with ringed aluminum piston. My recollection is that the wing area is around 785", so the ASP .53 should fit well and work well. A Super Tigre .60 would be another good choice. Cool airplane! Steve

Edit: I think Highflyer's Sterling kit is a Skylark, not a Skyscraper, and for $15 with a still pretty picture on the box, he got "such a deal", if the kit is complete and relatively undisturbed.
