Photography and videography at the 2004 Worlds

The Worlds start next week - it's time to dust off that old(?) camera and stock up on film (memory cards?) and batteries!
I was wondering if anyone has some special tricks to share when it comes to documenting a large CL contest. It can be anything - equipment you're using, settings, (film / ISO setting), best light conditions / times of day to shoot, etc...

Also, does anyone plan to videotape the flights? Again, what equipment / techniques are you using?

If you are using film, use high speed film so you can eliminate the blurs. For the digital, point and shoot. The biggest problems we have encountered is the need to get far enough away for video. Still shots are not a problem and one can use close up lenses. I wish the video cameras would come with "far away" lenses. The zoom in, they just don't zoom out (wide angle).

The problems with video are, therefore, setting up far enough up wind and still being able to get a clear shot (with no people in front). I am sure Windy will be there doing a full video of the proceedings. Matt will bring his video carera and undoubtedly shoot some flights. His is digital. The big question is, can one get in the proper position for taking the shots up wind. I don't think they are going to want a lot of spectators running around the area, and if the wind is in the wrong direction, well...?

This is what I'm wondering about. I hope they don't keep the spectators too far away from the circles. I don't have a big enough lens to pull in the action from much of a distance.

I believe Bruce Hunt is planning to attend. Heavy Stunt will likely video all proceedings.

It is hoped this proves to be the case, but I must point out that if Ted's engine eats a bee Bruce has been known to drop the camera, missing most of the action.

Also, at the NW Regionals he shredded a prop first round of Classic, required hours and hours to make the 20-minute-one-way trip home for a spare.
