I've read somewhere about a stunt flyer having an "animated stunt patten". Does anyone know what kind of software, program etc. that is being used? If anyone knows about it can the viewpoint be changed from pilot to judge perspective?

thanks

Keith Renecle has put together, as best he could, an animation of drawings of the maneuvers. The software is German(I think) called Blender. Keith says it is hard to learn, and I haven't figured it out yet. He should have the demo running at the WC this week. The most notable problem he said he's had is that some maneuvers simply can't be drawn or flown as described in the rulebook. There are also a number of ambiguities as to whether the plane is supposed to fly level at an altitude or a straight, greatcircle arc in spots. It should be a great tool for schooling judges.

Charles Buffalano has created MATLAB simulations for CL stunter flight paths which are pretty awesome. He has made 3D plots of maneuvers, and has had a couple of good articles in Stunt News in the past.

These aren't animations, however.

Y'all can futz around with computer generations until you're blue in the face or sitting in a wet spot.

Rich Porter's "Stunt Ball" was a whole lot cooler, and he could just put it on a chain, wear it around his neck, and annoy us at pilot's meetings. Which he used to do with fair regularity.

I miss that guy. Does anybody know if he is still active in CL Stunt?

His use of a pitch gauge--not to be confused with the device made by Prather--to set his Cox TDs was most amusing. Effective, even.

I recommend the video tape, "Flying the Patterns". Includes animated maneuvers, plus real people flying the beginner, regular, and OTS patterns. An interview with Art Adamisin on judging.

Try www.vicstunt.com, click pattern/tips, then click pattern tips. This may not be what you are looking for, but it is very instructive anyway.
