I didn't 'hang out' anywhere on that webpage. If you took the time to look at post counts, the 'Trashcan' far surpassed all other forums. Yes, I did go there to see who was whining about what, but I also went to other forums. Most of the time little or no activity was at that webpage to do with airplanes...from an R/C standpoint. I never bothered with C/L there because SS C/L Forums is better.

You might want to consider running your own server. I ran my own server once for online game for 1 winter about 5 years ago. It was very easy when I did it. I built a computer and devited it totally to being a game server. I used a 2nd computer to get online and play games. The game Quake has the option to be used as a server so that made it easy. It installed the game, connected it to the internet, and let it run. All I had to do was click the options in the game, time, kills, maps, weapons and let it run. If you have a program that you use for Flightlines I see no reason why you couldn't run your own server. Computer parts are much cheaper and faster than they were 5 years ago. Go to www.pricewatch.com and buy the computer parts you need, mother board, hard drive, video card, ram. I just finished building a new Pentium 2500 MHz computer. As long as you stay away from the NEW parts you can build a cheap fast computer. Parts that are only 1 year old are considered slow obsolute and are cheap. I bought an Athlon XP 2500 HMz mother board with onboard sound and modem was $89.00 the CPU was $79.99, 512 megs ram was $56.00, 52x CD rom on sale at staples with a rebate $20.00, 20 meg hard drive on sale at staples with a rebate $36.00, monotor on sale sale at stables with a rebate $78.00, 500 watt ATX case $35.00, keyboard, mouse and A drive were used. Parts are plug and play now days so building a computer is about as easy as changing a burned out light bulb. If you need a lot of hard drive space you can install more hard drives. Install windows, install drivers, install your program, do setup. Installing more RAM will speed up your computer. If the server is dedicated it will run faster. If your not running a lot of demanding memory hungry graphics you probably won't need a dedicated server. Your home computer will make a great server.

Making it available to internet users is the expensive hard part.
Minimum T1 connection, fault tolerant (raid) disks, good quality forum software. All can be quite daunting and time consuming. Just ask Leonard.

Having done this kind of work for over 15 years, I would have to say that running a site out of one's house is not the way to go. Just the cost alone of the service would be daunting. Firstly, you would have to find an ISP that will give you a good rate on a static IP address. Then, get it registered. Then, setup and maintain a server. That means keeping up with upgrades, patches, and equipment problems. Sure - it can be done, but it is considerable work and more expensive than having a site hosted by a reputable and competent ISP. Most ISPs are linked to the internet with far better quality network connection in terms of speed and reliability than what you get in home service.
Building a computer from parts off of Pricewatch is the easy part. Configuring it to be a server and maintaining it as a server is the hard part.

there are a lot of ISP's out there that are so easy to do business with, I would not want to bother with security, disk drives, anymore. They have a whole room fo servers and 1 guy to take care of them all. I took an existing server and moved out to an ISP and I could not beleive how painelss it was. They have had almost zero down time in 3 years, and I have full admin access to it. Never hacked, always up to date as far as patches and backups go.
Save your money and time. Get someone who is in the business.

I changed the the member settings so you should be able to get signed up easily. FYI: Those signing up with "Hotmail" or "Yahoo" accounts may have a little difficulty do to thier spam filtering. Make sure to check your settings if you use these accounts to sign up. Some of your other ISP's do this as well.

I am glad that this place stays primarily on PAMPA and rejoice in it. But it's also nice to have a place where we can talk about carrier and Balloon bust without hearing the heavy breathing of pure blood stunt grunts who are just trying to cope with the drift.
