I came across a picture of this design in an old Stunt News from 1993. It's a graceful-looking profile that originated in the 1960's according to the caption. Does anyone have any more info on this plane? Plans? Thanks.

They fly great. Don't know where to get plans but I will ask my OT freinds.

The caption on the photo credits the design to Tom Walden and this particular example was built by Bill Noyes. That's about all I know about this plane. I haven't seen any plans for it at the usual sources.

I think it was designed by Tom Warden and Bill Noyes.

I built one in about 1970 from a foam wing kit that I received on my birthday. Easy to build and (as my failing memory permits) flew pretty well. But it was heavy since the foam wing was not cored. Should be easy now to construct it without the extra ounces.

Yep, a Tom Warden design. He let me fly one of his, ST-46 power, at the old Gahr H.S. (Cerritos, Calif.) field, mid-1970s. As I recall, that thing was rock-steady, and would turn on a dime. Unfortunately I don't know of plans source but wish I did, since the design would be a killer in the "P-40" event.

Yea, It had noseblocks sorta like a Coyote and, if I remember correctly, wingtips ala USA-1? Boy, that's been a very long time ago. My cousin and I each got one. I had a K&B 40 on mine and I think my cousin (Mr. Ultralight builder) had an OS35 in his. That's about all I can remember now.

Anybody have a picture of one somewhere?

I have one of the kits and I can make copies of the plans (I Think) for anyone who would want one - actually if you all want one, we could do a round robin - I copy the plans for one person, he copies the plans for another person, who in turn, copies the plans for another again... etc.

Let me know.

Steve,

Could you post a picture of the Trophy Trainer??

Thanks!

The photo was in the March/April 1993 issue on page 37. I don't have the means to post the picture and it isn't that great a photo to begin with. It does give a little sense of the attractive nature of the plane though.

Many gracious thanks to Mccoy40 for providing me with a plan set for the Trophy Trainer. It IS a nice-looking airplane, just as I thought. When I get the time, I'm going make a few building plan sets and I'll send one to Len so he can put it in with his group of plans. This airplane is too pretty to just fade away.

I have to apologize, I didn't realize that there was any traffic on this topic, I will make a set of plans for everyone.
So,
Let me see, that is 4 sets of plans - all for the trophy trainer. I will try to get a set done for all of you and give you the price for copying and mail etc. before I send them off. Please give me a chance to get the plans out since I just recently moved (again!)

I've figured the cost out and what you all need to do is send

ten dollars $10.00 to :

Mr Joseph Meyer
1018 Winding River Lane
Phoenixville Pa 19460

PLease make your checks out to :

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

We'll collect them all together and send them to St Judes with a little note saying all of us modelers wanted to help out a worthy cause - Maybe they'll let us fly for the kids some day.

If you want to learn more about what you are donating to, go to:

No one is ever turned away from St Judes - Ever.
