I can't seem to get my landing gear to fit my plane?
Just kidding I went to the Carolina Historic Aviation Museum near the Charlotte Airport this week The plane is the Link trainer from 1944 and the gear is from a 747 and weighs 13,000+ pounds. This little Link trainer was brought to my school in 1950 and I and all the other kids got to clime in and they would close the top and it would tip forward and back. That was very exciting for a nine year old at the time. Little did I know that I would go on to become good friends with Ed Link and his son years later as we lived in the same area and the company I worked for would end up buying Link.The third photo was a total surprise to me as I had no idea that the Douglas Skystreak was still around.Three were built in 1946 and it held the world speed record in 1947 at 650 mph until the X1 rocket plane broke the sound barrier.Douglas also had the Skyrocket that broke the sound barrier soon after the X1. Douglas had hoped that the Skystreak would be able to break the sound barrier but soon saw that this was not going to happen and pushed forward with there Skyrocket.
