Interesting that defending F2D WC Michael Willcox has a defeat already in round 1.

Yeah, and Mark Rudner has a loss too, bummer.
And there don't seem to be any Wakkermans competing
this year, double bummer. But Chorny's there, and Faizov,
and Willance. Plenty of good people.

After all the hours I spent helping Bryce and company with practice, he goes down like a sack of the proverbial in the first round and draws the guy who beat Mike Willcox for the second. I'll have to have words with that boy...

A remarkable 5th place performance from our (NZL) F2C team after the first day. They will be pleased. Not bad considering they were hoping to get close to top 20!!

Really good result for Andrew and Shaun!!!!! They are using box-stock Lerner/Bondarenko gear, that they only go a few weeks ago - I guess that they have learned how to use it.

If your talking to Bryce, can you tell him that, although we appreciate his showmanship, could he please quit clowning around and get on with it!, we cant stand the tension. Also he's not to get distracted by the girl pilots!>

That TR time is a full 2 seconds under the NZ record and at least 5 seconds better than their best reliable times here. I guess the conditions are more TR friendly there or something.

The Aussie combat guys seem to be doing quite nicely so far...

I saw Faizov in a great match with the kid from Singapore. There was a midiar, and Faizov's airplane was missing most of the covering on the outboard wing, but was still flying. The kid's airplane crashed and they went to the second airplane, but had a heck of a time starting it. Faizov had a cut, and was way ahead on airtime. We figured as soon as the kid got his second airplane up, Faizov would probably crash the first, damaged model and go to his second, so the kid would have a harder time getting a cut on him. But no. The kid came after him, and he sort of dodged for a while, then saw an opening, and got a cut or two flying what amounted to half an airplane.

p.s. Oh, you mean in the contest! Pretty windy again, and quite cool - probably in the high 70's. Not 2003 NATs windy, but pretty respectable. Rob flew well in the wind, with some problems in the hourglass and overhead, and I think it in around 3rd place in Junior. Paul flew an awe-inspiring flight in a particularly bad spot of air, including an incredibly high-speed set of outside rounds. He got a decent, but in the view of most observers, abberant, score. Billy wound up 4th, Paul 5th, and Ted 8th. Rob was pretty far down but any luck at all tomorrow and he'll have a shot at the flyoff. Serge Belgarde of France is first.

The Chinese team made it in last night, and the #3 guy, Zhang, flew pretty darn well. The junior crashed his plane. I later asked him if it was fixed, and he said "I don't want to fix it, it's too windy". Niu and Han have Saito-56 powered radial-cowl models, but I haven't seen them fly yet. They missed their slots yesterday, but get another chance Friday.

I'm wondering if this is the same Faizov that flew his folding wing F1C to a podium finish at the 2001 World Free Flight Champs? The wingtips fold under the main panels (for a symetrical wing, half the area under power), then pop up into a polyhederal wing with undercambered airfoil. Bloody amazing! Steve

After some checking, they seem to be different people.
Boris Faizov is the F1D flyer; Leonid Fuzeyev is the F1C flyer
(though he did make his his start flying combat models

His cool plane, the Rose Pelican, is described in the 2002 NFFS Symposium Report.

The kid was probably Hoe Mun - he's pretty good. Sounds like one heck of a match. The adult Singaporeans decided not to fly F2D - no pitmen.

So how many of us are here? I just arrived today and will spectate this week. We are putting on a Carrier Demo on Saturday. Looks like there was not notification of it anywhere.
