Brett!! Say it ain't so!

Just got my SN today, and was aghast to find out, in Brett's column, about the demise of Ted's famous Final Edition!! Now THERE'S a loss! However, Brett, I just have one question... how could you mention something like this, and not provide at least a BIT of information regarding HOW something like this could happen?? That's like saying "How do you keep an idiot in suspense... I'll tell you tomorrow." Any further info?

The new ship is a fine replacement.

I believe it was "Christine", a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury. This wasn't one of Stephen King's best efforts. It came out somewhere around 1983 - 1984.

Wouldn't it be nice if our favorite plane could rejuvenate like her? There would more 5' bottoms!

Anyone remember the name of the kid that owned the car? Hint... he wasn't related to Richie.

There was another movie, too, about a possessed car...indeterminate big matte-finish charcoal thing with a diesel-sounding horn and non-transparent windows..."The car"?? Maybe made-for-TV movie, seemed low-budget. Pretty cool, anyhow. I've seen it twice on TV but not recently.

Le Bay was the name of the original cars owner, right? the only other guy I remember was Mooch, the fat guy who got run over.

"The Car" was another cool movie. That was a big sedan like the Town Car, but with the blacked out windows. Perfect for squashing model planes.....

I had a 58 Plymouth back in the middle '60s. It either was a Plaza or a Savoy (bottom feeder lines) 4 door with a flathead 6 in it. Three on the Tree, bought from my great uncle, for $25. Keep it a month, and resold it for $125. Or $150. Something like that.

He bought a '59 Plymouth with automatic, and couldn't figure out how to drive it (this is after driving stick for so many years). We told him "put it in D and aim it").

Horrendous quality "control", but a good handling car for the period, especially given its size. Currell

Although last Sunday when I DID fly, we were battered by thunderstorms and swarms of hornets. It was almost a biblical experience......

The summer before I went off to college, I drove a 59 Plymouth Fury ambulance which was used by one of the local funeral homes. In those days, ambulance drivers had no training other than the willingness to drive at breakneck speeds. The object was to get to the wreck or other emergency call before the other home's ambulance as you are more likely to get any embalming business that way. Pay was $12 a week and I worked midnight til 8 am two or three nights a week.

The Fury ambulance was scary fast with major leage horsepower(I think a 426 hemi) and I recall it had the pushbuttons on the dash automatic transmission. It was so fast that the guy who replaced me was killed in it when he failed to negotiate the local dead man's curve and hit a really large oak tree.

Another similar one involving a truck with Dennis Weaver vainly trying to escape the menacing semi.

Not much to say - it crashed, and is no more. Its reamains now grace Sunnyvale's infamous Mt. Trashmore landfill. Took my first RO-Jett with it, but that turned out OK as well, since the replacement is much stronger.

New airplane flies well.

Yea, I'd say it flies well. Looks like Ted is tearing it up.
