Very nice pic's. One correction if I may. #7 is Bruce Perry flying his "Merlin". Chris Cox was the alt this year for the Canadian team if memory serves.

Sorry, but photo #7 is not Chris Cox . It is Bruce Perry. I believe Chris launched for Bruce. Chris was team manager. Keith Varley

Thats an artifact of the photo... Mostly its due to the rotation of the prop while the shutter is open (or it's digital equivalent)...

added comment: It is very interesting to see a side mounted engine at this level of competition. I've gotten so used to seeing only inverted engines...

I have heard that angle of the engine is chosen in such a way that the inside-outside behaviour is symmetrical. You will notice that it is not completely outboard.. A few degrees downwards...

The DeHavilland Twin was the best flying twin I have ever seen. I flew like it weighed 40 ounces and turned on a dime.

Ron, you can see there also 45 deg mounted engines by Alex Schrek.

This appears to be one of the models built (and sold) by the Yatsenko brothers'. They have two different styles for sale on their web site, plus the original style shown in this picture. Andrij was flying their new 'Shark' design and Yuri was flying a model like the one in the picture above.

BTW, these are for sale, in the carrying case, for around $1850 (engine included).

Steve Yampolsky, myself and David Chang ordered Retro-Discovery 60 engines from Yuri Yatsenko.

Don't yet know where mine is going, but Chang's is to be nestled in the nose the 88/90 WC winning Skywriter design.

A Ukrainian engine in a Chinese design built by an American guy. And he'll probably use an Austrailian prop!

Here's a few more pics from the WC. The first one should be Will Hubin and Larry Scarinzi taking in the action at the combat circles and #2 should be Ted Fancher's Special Edition head on. Photo 2 didn't respond as well to compression but it's still a neat pic.
