New York Stunt Masters contest

I did something I shouldn't be doing: I browsed Rich Peabody's web site! On the events page, I noticed something new this year that peaked my interest: Flushing meadows contest on October 3rd!!!

Can anyone shed some light as to what's the contest is going to be about? I thought they don't fly in Flushing anymore.

Joe Ortiz' contest on Memorial Day Weekend in 1989 was the first comp I ever flew in.

Did ya know that at one time EACH of the burroughs in New York City had there own flying site? Flushing in Queens is the only one left.

Wicked!!!!! I'm game. Flying in the middle of a large city is an experience I enjoy!

I used to fly next to Boston University Bridge over Charles river, next to MIT buildings.

Hello Steve,

Stunt is alive and well in Flushing Meadows Park. We generally fly there on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays unless some of us are off at a contest on the weekend.
Yes, we are planning to have a Contest on October 3, 2004 and we will be calling this "The Joe Ortiz Memorial Contest" in honor of our lost and dearest friend, Joe Ortiz. We certainly miss him alot.
We will be running 5 PAMPA Stunt events, ARF, Beginner Pattern and Intermediate along with Advanced and Pampa Expert.
There will be Trophies to 3 Places and we plan on having a "Concourse de Elegance" which will be voted on by the pilots attending and competing at the contest.
We also plan on having a "Memorial Trophy in Joes Honor which will go to the winner of a "Fly Off" between the winners from Intermediate, Advanced and Expert. We will determine this winner using the same system they do at the "NEST Contest" and "The GSCB Contest". That is having the 3 winners fly off and whoevers score goes up the greatest percentage from there official winning score will go home with the "Memorial Trophy" for the year. When it is returned the following year we will give the Winner a Plaque for his keeping showing the win.

The field will be open on Saturday October 2, and most of us will be there practicing and making last minute preps for the contest. For your info you can fly at the Fjushing site from Dusk till Dawn with no restrictions. It has 2 paved circles and 2 grass circles.
For your further information we have combined "The Flushing Controline Association" and "The Suffolk Stunt Masters" into one new Chapter which is now called "The New York Stunt Team".
We also now have flying site insurance through AMA for both "The Fluhing Meadows Site" and "The Suffolk Stunt Masters Site" at the Defense Hill location on Long Island.
