I made a venturi for an ASP .40 for "Thaddiii" (a club member). I'm a machinist by trade, and not looking for more stuff that resembles work. With the forward NVA location you suggested, the NV would be dangerously close to the prop, so I elected to make a venturi, and put the NVA through the venturi, above the O-ring. At home, I don't have a way to do what I'd consider a proper setup to drill a crankcase for a spraybar and be sure it'd be centered, etc. I made it out of aluminum, rather than my usual Delrin, and reused the clamping stud gizmo. Thadd reported that it worked great, by the way.
There is nothing at all wrong with doing this, tho the NVA is a bit higher than typical. All tests I have seen concluded that the NVA height has nothing to do with the fuel tank height required for equal upright/inverted lap times, tho High School Physics would say otherwise. As I recall, Ted Fancher, Al Rabe, and some others all came to the same conclusion...it's rather mysterious. Further, the stock setup on the ST G.51/CL is through the venturi, not behind the venturi, and not through the crankcase. One nice thing about this setup is that you can angle the NV back (or forward, if you insist). Both factors would be better for a profile, IMO.
Scott Riese makes many of the venturies sold by various tuners around the country, and unlike them, he's not currently at the NATS. You could look him up in the SSW Members List, and send him a "PM" for his price, address and other info. Or look for one of his posts.
I like Nelson/Randy Aero NVA's much better than the ST clones, and the ST originals. Some like OS NVA's, but they're an oddball diameter. If you use a ST, ST Clone, K&B, Nelson/Randy Aero, MVVS and some others, they're all the same .156" dia., so you can usually come up with an alternate in a pinch. Last month I guest flew Danny Dirt's scabbiest ARF-Streak, and the OS .20FP was 1/2 click rich (OS NVA), right after his flight, which was 1/2 click lean. I'd skip the clickers & solve that problem.
