WC Photo Album

I started an on-line photo album for my WC pics. There are just a few in it at present, but I hope to have a lot more in the next few days. Be sure to click on "normal size" so the photos will be displayed without any wavy contours that result when the computer resizes them to fit the screen. I've tried to size them all at 800 pixels wide so they will have less trouble fitting on the screen. Enjoy

Absolutely astounding, Elwyn. I do hope you won't mind sharing some of your secrets on how to get those amazing shots! I now have a digital camera, and so far haven't been able to do much to get in-flight shots...

Elwin is using a 35MM film camera. Most Digitals do not take the picture when you tell them like a film camera will. There is always a slight delay and unless you have a $5,000.00+ Nikon or Olympus Digital you won't be able to do much with in-flight photos. It helps a little to press the button half way to get the auto stuff settled down but then you may be focusing on the clouds instead of the airplane. It isn't you it's the camera technology..

Take a lot of photos! When you think you've taken enough go out and shoot a half dozen more rolls! I did get a little digital to do most of the non-action photos with and it works great. The shutter delay can be a problem at times though. I had a few shots that came out somewhat hazy but I was able to play around with the contast and still make a few of them useable.

Supposedly the best cameras for timing action shots are the old rangefinder type (Leica, Canon, etc.) because there is no delay for the mirror to flip up, even. Or so someone at a rocket launch (who had one) told me. One problem with them is framing/focusing with longer lenses. My approach (when it came to taking Combat photos) was to shoot lots and lots of film. You'll waste a lot of the frames, but out of the two hundred or so you shoot you'll get three or four really good ones.

I've got to fire up the old film scanner again. I've got several hundred negatives to scan.

When Elwyn checked in at AMA Headquarters, he was given a press pass. I think he took over 700 pictures during the World Champs.

Your photos are absolutely wonderful. They really tell the story of the Worlds from a visual perspective. These are the pictures of the Worlds that I was looking for!!

I have gone back several times to look at these photos. I have visited the site at least 20 times...Again, great pics!!

There is software available but I don't know the name of it. One of the website operators in Australia asked to use some of the shots and he said he had software that would download everything at once.

Elwyn, Thanks for bringing the Worlds right into my living room. I am always looking for new painting ideas. The stunters from around the world are top notch. Even with no appearance points in FAI people really take pride in their craftsmanship. The AMA has lead the way for the rest of the world in this pride.
