What have you built in the last year?

Hi all!
Just for the fun of it, let's tell what we've built in the last year. It could be interesting to see the numbers and cross section of different models and power plants.
I'll start.
Midwest Mustang (48") with ST G-21 .46.
Brodak Galaxy with ST C .35
Sig Twister with OS Max-S .35
Sig Skyray with OS Max .25FSR
Brodak Lightning Streak with OS Max .24 SF
Each plane flies very differently from the others. All except the Mustang are excellent fliers in every respect. The Mustang, however, will not stay tight on the lines in the tops of vertical eights or outside overhead loops - fine on insides - I'm puzzled but I'll get it!

In keeping with Len.s challenge here is my answer to your post.

1. I am finishing up a modified Skyray for Profile Stunt events. It will be powered with either a Magnum Pro .25BB or a deteunded OS .35FP

2. I will be making some repairs and doing some refinishing on my Intrepid this fall. If I have time I will try lightening it a little bit.

3. I will begin construction sometime after or during Christmas of my Excelsior design PA ship. If I have it done in time to fly at the Nats O.K. if not, well we will see what I'll fly.

4. Then I'll build a smaller classic ship so I can carry both my PA plane and a classic plane in my car.

Jim you really should try the OS 25 LA for your Skyray. I bought one and have been bench running it, and it is way powerful and light (and way cheap). The controlline version is ready to go for a profile. Mine will spin a 10-4 APC 11,000 RPM.

I'll have to unload a couple of engines I have and a kit with 2 sets of plans. Probably at the Atlanta Contest, before I can justify expending more $ on an engine to the finance master of our house.

For the last two years I've travelling to Europe & Asia. I've built one plane, a follow-up to my "Mud Flap Gal" of 1999. The plane is "Tainted Love", based on Phil Cartier's Psycho 550 wing. T'Love has a built up fuselage, I feel I build build ugly without resorting to profiles. T'Love is powered by a series 21 McCoy 40 that was R/C but thanks to Leonard was converted (Reformed?) to a decent C/L (Randy what's his name needle helps too). But T'love came to a bad end last Saturday the McCoy quit finishing the 4leafclover. boohoo. Eight apperance points down the drain. I still love Econocote & Rustoleum. I have a finite number of hours remaining and if I rub anything, it won't be an airplane.

Geez, you guys have a lot of time on your hands!!!

Let's see---

The Heretic (my own design). High aspect design that flies a lot better with a 4 Stroke than it ever did with a piped Stalker.

Tango Red - just about done. Based very loosely on Mark McLaughlin's intense modification of Gierke's Novi IV design. Cool 640sq inch wing (my version), elipitical design. Mark came up the the very cool name.

About half done with my semi-scale version of The Rare Bear. More Al Rabe than Windy (or much more scale than semi).

About half done with a classic plane. Awaiting the return of the engine so I can finish the nose.

Put a new engine in my wife's car and am about half done re-painting the damaged tailgate(oh, that doesn't count).

Well, I started out finishing a 25 year old Nobler with Mike Stott foam wings and a modified Fox .35, a Super Chipmunk, modified tail feathers and a Fox .40 stunt (1973 engine), finished a Genesis with a OS Max III .35 (engine worn out and plane just too heavy. A profile Cardinal with ST G21 .46, An Ares scratch almost done, Magician modified to upright engine, almost done. a Barnstormer (rebuilt the fuselage) and a Goldberg Shoestring Stunter with a K&B .29 green head. Needs to be test flown. When just doew the "building season" begin or end down here in Dixieland??

My son Jake, and I built a Sig Buster for him to fly at the
VSC. Power is an ancient OS 20. Over 30 solo flights by six
year old Jake and still going strong.

I finished a Bear in the spring, 58 oz. with a PA 61. Unfortunately, mechanical failure led to a crash one
week before the Nats.

Just after the Nats I built a Sig fun-fly Ultimate Bipe
modified ever so slightly (lowered the top one wing one
inch; otherwise stock) for CL. Originally had a Saito 56,
but the motor was improperly timed and had to be returned to
the distributor. Now has an OS 40 VF with pipe. Wow! What a
blast to fly.

And finally, I just sprayed clear on my Bill Simons Shoestring
today. Power will come from a Stalker 42, weight should be
45-46 oz.

Hadn't touched a model airplane for several years until last year. Here's what I did:

1) Finished rebuilding a scratch built Flite Streak. Crashed at VSC IX. Fortunately, George's signature survived! BTW, ran out of gas during the cloverleaf, that round still turned out to be my highest scoring! Uh, first and only model airplane contest of any kind I've ever even seen.

2) Finished a Smith Sniper, .15 profile carrier model, that I started in 1997.

3) Finished a Dick Sarpolus TD 049 Gee Bee. NEATO!

4) Finished a Dave Haught semi scale Spirit of St. Louis. Standoff scale sport flying plane. Has a swap meet McCoy redhead .19. Oh ya, last two started in 1996.

Ok, new stuff:

1) Built 2 Sterling beginner's Zero's (one from kit, other scratch). They got my son and his friend flying (7 and 12 yrs old). Followed that by 2 Bill Osborne Platters (COOL .049 foam board planes). They got my son and his friend flying upside down! Followed that by 2 (see a pattern here?) Wingmasters. 1990 vintage MA article of a .049 sheet balsa plane with flaps. Good flying plane. Well, actually, the second isn' done yet.

2) Completely rebuilt a 10 yr old Sig Banshee. Had a Fox 35. Really bad airplane. Built WAY before I understood anything stunt. Turns out I think it was the broken motor mounts (in SEVERAL places) that started making the motor run funny... Replaced everything but the landing gear, spinner, wing and pushrod. Will now have a OS 40FP. Bolted the motor on tonight, will start flying it tomorrow!

3) Scratch built a Flying Clown, waiting on a gas tank before finishing up the nose (Brodak ran out of tubing?!), then ready to paint. Will have a Fox .15.

4) "Built" a 35 year old Goldberg Shoe string by giving Bill $25! Wanted a plane to reduce the flying duty of the Flite Streak. Has a Fox 35 out of the "see below".

5) Built a Sig Kougar. Ok, ok, but I just can't fly c/l while sitting in a floating chair in the swimming pool! Now, teach my son to spin the chair fast enough, get rid of a couple Bradford Pear trees...

Lastly,

1) Unbuilt a scratch built Black Tiger (flapped OTS). Had a Fox 35, built it for VSC IX. By the way, while surfing I found a picture of my plane on the Pampa website. Found it a few days after the crash, that helped. Pushrod broke, turned into popcorn!

2) Unbuilt the aforementioned Sig Kougar. Guess the c/l gods didn't approve? The radio quit, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

One more thing,

Starting finishing a few others, bought plans for a Galloping Comedian, and am just starting helping my son (now 8) build his Flying Clown. You know, I'm just about where I was this time last year!

I've been known to build 1-2 planes every 5 years - it's just not my primary hobby but have been somewhat more active this year.

Anyway, built a 1/2A Student trainer from plans. Borrowed Cox Babe Bee. Got my 9 year old soloed on it this summer. Now going from 25' dacron lines to 35' .008" steel lines. May put the Black Widow in it for longer flights.

Brodak Streak Trainer w/FP 15. Ready for final finishing w/Brodak dope. The kid has ROG, straight/level and landings mastered with the Student. He's ready for the larger trainer. With this we can fly on breezier days. Calm days are hard to come by in the midwest.

Building a Sarpolous 1/2A Zlin Akrobat for Norvel .061. Ready for trim coats. Very cute design. For both of us.

Finished a Skyray 35 w/FP 25 but stuffed it earlier this spring. I get out and start being creative then wind up one or two corners behind the airplane. It's repairable.

Recovered a 12 year old Ringmaster S-1A. Peeled the Black Baron film off, repaired some open glue seams and it now has UltraCote. Fox 35 blueprinted by one of our club guys. Lost my fuel tank with the Skyray mishap so a 3 oz oval profile will be ordered. This is the best flying Ringer I've ever had! All black with DARE stickers decorating it.

Have a Aerosmith Prowler (SSW 35) which is framed up and ready for hinging and painting but its been at this stage for nearly two years. I've heard this is a super flying profile.

Bought a UKey 15 from JJ. The Norvel .15 BigMig is a little hot for it but fun. May swap in a milder engine.

I've two TF Tutor kits. One has a badly warped fuse but I can replace the wood. I had one years ago and did the Hemstrought mods to it. Fox 35 and really, really liked it. Will try the FP 25 on the other.

I want to start an OTS El Diablo. I just like the old stuff. Fox 35 (of course) running upright.

Inherited a wrecked Otto the Giro(copter). Sanded the cracked Aerogloss off and will refinish with Brodak. Building the rotors now. Will have Fox 36 BB R/C with the J Roberts crank and handle. These are fun. Got some trimming tips from Mr. Autogiro himself - Bill Darkow. Have reduced the blade pitch and rotor incidence angle slightly per his recommendations. Will be used for club demos.

If I ever get around to a full fuselage stunter I've always wanted to build Hemstrought's PT-19 and am looking at the Van Loo Chipmunk. I've got a Sig Super Chip kit - still with the $14.95 price tag on it.

I've built 2 flapless designs based on the Doctor and managed to fly my first full pattern.
Then I build a 670 inch model based on Beringer's Sukhoi, powered by a Saito .56. I flew this model all summer, and "perfected" my pattern to the point where I entered a contest---finished dead last (466 points) and had a ball. I bought another Saito, and I'll build a model based on the Chester "Jeep" with Sukhoi numbers, but bigger flaps, and see what happens
