Hi Gang I plan on test flying 2 planes tomorrow, one a Brodak Olympic powered by a Brodak 40 and the other one a 65 oz.Trivial Pursuit powered by a PA 40 on pipe.
The Olympic is Brand spankin' new and weighs 45 oz. and has never been flown before, wish me luck as I plan on flying it in Vancouver in 2 weeks at the PAC Classic contest, and I hope to fly the other one also.
The TP's story is that it has maybe 10 flights on it, last year at this time I was trimming it out when it rolled in on me on the inverted turn upward on the reverse wingover. Some quick back pedalling and I managed to keep it from stuffing itself into the ground at a 45 degree angle, but it did clip the wing gear and tear them out and destroy the cowl and beak the front glue joint of the stab, allowing it to flex when you pushed on the tips from the top but not from the bottom.
That was fixed with a little exploratory surgery and a 1/16th ply plate glued to the re-glued joint, but this repair was what kept me from looking at the plane for a while figuring that I would need to remove the satb to fix it.
Suffice it to say I didn't want to look at it for a while and campaigned my Legacy for the rest of the 2003 season.
If you look at the pictures carefully you'll see that I repaired the wings, thankfully there was only 1 puncture on the top of one wing.
I removed the wing gear and installed carbon fuse gear. Another plus was that the wing was of lost foam construction so replacing ribs was a breeze! Same with leading edge, it's molded so I molded some new sections and grafted them in place somwewhat seamlessly. And of course I made a new cowl. I hope the work all pays off and that the trim gremlin that caused the problem will be vanquished!
