Which Plug?

The Thunderbolt R/C long seems well recommended on this forum as does the Thunderbolt four stroke plug. These are not too common in UK but can be obtained by mail from our forum host amongst others. Which would be best for both FPs and STs? Enya No3 is readily available here and seems to perform quite well but is slightly shorter than the normal US and european long series plugs.

I have used both quite a bit, but the Enya 3 doesnt seem to have the long life of the Thunderbolt ,just recently I had an element distort quite quickly on me and the thunderbolt ones seem to last very long, like almost a year.Maybe two or three hundred flights. The Enyas certainly look beautiful, like a piece of jewellery, but here in Canada they cost at least twice as much as the thunderbolt We sometimes make a big joke out of it when one of us makes his annual plug change . I've been using the FOX RC LONG in my ST.51 and ST.60 for years (10% nitro) without a single problem. In fact, the one I have installed in my ST.60 is giving me reliable service since 1997 and it's still running.

Matt had a fuel filter problem on his plane the first day of practice for the Nats. Before we sorted it out, he changed the plug as a precaution. The new plug made absolutely no difference in the run (after things were fixed.) He thought he had earlier changed plugs on the engine, but hadn't. It turned out to be the original Thunderbolt that was used for breakin and was still in the engine some 400 flights later. OK, I guess they do work for a while.

We have also used Fox RC long plugs with great success. We used these in our FP engines, in the Magnums, and even in Matt's previous pipe engines (PA). They, also, ran well.

Some prefer one plugs, some will prefer others. But these two brands have done well for us. And price (in the US) is about the same these days. Unfortunately, the price on glow plugs keeps going up. (Forget gold, buy glow plugs).

Mike, try OS MAX "F". It is expensive, but available in Europe and works well.

LOL. The Fox RC Long was THEE hot setup for the ST46 and ST60 way back in my Flushing Meadows days. In fact, my ST46 still has a Fox RC long plug in it! All the big east coast "stars" were packing Fox RC Longs in their Supertigres. It amazes me that the more things change, the more they seem to stay the same! The OS Max F plug is definitely the hot setup in terms of longevity for the "Big Block" 4 strokes.

If you can't find Thunderbolt's on the LHS shelf, look for Zinger equivalents. They are both made by Irwin Ohlsson's company (O&R w/o any Rice), appear and work the same in all ways. I would try K&B plugs before using Fox plugs. What about Taylor glowplugs? Are they still available in GB? Steve
