Any opinions on Leo and ASP engines

Hi all,
I tried to search for this, but Leo brings up LEOnard Neumann in every thread ever!

So, what do people think of ASP and Leo engines? They appear to be bargains. I know the Leos had some sort of carb problem, but I'm not sure how much that affects us C/L people.

I'm tempted by a .15...

I had one Leo in hand that looked good, but Thunder Tigers are more readily available to us. If the Leo is more available to you, it should be a good engine.

As to the ASP, the new ones are made in the same factory in China) as the Magnum engines, and, at least as far as the .53 is concerned, it uses the same exact innards. The bearings are rated at 15,000 rpm, so if you are an RC type that wants to put a 10 x 6 on everything you fly and wind it as fast as you can, you may over rev and experience a bearing failure. Not the fault of the engine. It is the fault of the flyer. For our purposes we don't approach those speeds in stunt. If you run it within its ratings, it will do fine. It uses a true chrome plated cylinder and workmanship and finish (at least on the ones I have) is excellent. Go for it. Just be aware that a 40 and a 53 weigh the same. The weight for a 40 is heavy. But the weight for a 53 is quiute good. So my choice in the matter is obvious.

Have 2 ASP 32s, I have been running one; in a 550 sq. in. sport type foam profile, the engine was a bit cranky at first but this is typical of abc engines. I run a 10x4 on it and it puts out loads of horsepower, and I'm very pleased with its performance. I am comparing the ASP 32 to my OS 32SX which we run in speed limit combat, which is very popular in this area, looking inside the engines, the OS looks better made but I think the ASP has more horsepower; I think with a better quality bearings it would make a nice stunt engine due to the fact that it weighs about 9 oz. and I think an 11x4 is not out of the question. I've not been able to wear it out and it hasn't broke and it cost half of what the Os retails for, so I think they're a pretty good deal, at least the 32 is.

In the past two years I have had ASP's in 15,21,25. I am very impressed with the fiendly engines. In the past there were some problems with carbs with the ASP, but the c/l versions dont have that problem and run just fine. I have also had a couple of Leo's and think the quality is really good. Have not run a Leo yet, but have heard that it is a friendly enine too. I am now working on a new prototype stunter and will be using the ASP 25 in it.
