Parts and correct color for Orwicks

Anybody know what paint can be used to re-paint a Orwick so it will look correct? Also looking for the mounts so that it can be beam mounted. These would be for a 29 glow. I know there is a guy that caters to these old engines but I can't find his web site, if he has one.

Bill. There are several "correct colors" for the Orwick. The ones I have owned were:
1. light green "hammertone" glossy enamel
2. medium green "crinkle" finish, and no shine
3. a darker green medium gloss, but not hammertone.

I have a K&M replica Orwick 64, and Joe Klause said that his color matched most of the engines built by Henry Orwick. It is meduim green gloss enamel. A photo of this engine is shown in he April 2003 Model Aviation magazine, page 43. The photo shows the color pretty well.

I have painted Orwicks with auto engine enamel of "almost" the correct color. You have to strip the engine and remove the old paint (but don't remove the venturi, mask it off). Just for good luck, I baked the crankcase in a low oven for a few hours.

Many parts from Randy Linslato (MECOA) used on the Cunningham Blue Streak will also fit the Orwick 64. I don't know of any Orwick specialists these days, since Joe Klause doesn't build engines anymore.

The Orwick on the left is actually an RJL Cunningham Blue Streak which I modified to look like an Orwick. (cut off beam mounts, smoothed crankcase, venturi made from an X-Acto knife handle. On the right is an original Orwick 64 which I have re-painted with "nearly" the correct color.

I have also found that the Orwick crankcase radial mount screws will strip. So I drill the crankcase for 6-32 and use stainless steel hardware and elastic stop nuts.

1991 Toyota 6L6 light green mica matches the green on the R/H Orwick in Dr. Spark's picture. It is the right shade of green but isn't a hammertone paint. I still have most of a pint can of it that I would send you if it were legal to do so.

Dr. Spark, do you belong to MECA? If so do you know of the guy who makes reproduction parts for OT engines? He goes by enginear on eBay but that is all I can remember about him. Thankyou for the pics!

I also have written letters to Woody sometime ago, addressing him as "Bartlett". His name is actually BARTELT.

Friend has an Orwick 64 he received as a birthday present many years ago. He had cleaned it with lacquer thinner which took the paint off. Some years later, for display, he painted it with a green crackle-finish typewriter paint. It looks good but no idea if the paint would hold up in use.
