I am building a new model. It is based on the profile Cardinal (wing and stab) but with a built up fuselage. I have placed the Stab/elevator a bit higher than what is usual. The stab center is about 2" higher than the wing cord center. I wonder if this has any negative effect. I remember that the Sting Ray (Gialdini?) hat the elevator placed high. When i look at pictures of the Neumann Stuka, i also not thea the stab is placed relatively high.

How about comparing your alignments with the full fuse Cardinal version?

Where is the engine thrust line relative to the wing and stab?

The engine trustline is in line with the wing

I suspect it will work quite well.

It's fairly obvious (to ME) that the conventional setup with the stab offset above the wing centerline results in some "blanking" of the elevator for DOWN controls. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, I personally feel that nice round outside loops are easier because of that effect - but it IS an assymetry in the control function.

I've heard both sides expressed on "in line" setups, so I don't really know.

On consideration might be a slight imbalance effect if the stab is very high - say on top of the rudder. The comments I heard about in line setups seemed to be related to a change in vertical CG position.

On way to find out!

Tom Morris or Tom Mc Clain had pix here last year of an F-104(maybe). Anyway, it had a T-tail and reportedly had no unusual problems and flew well. Be prepared to do a little surgery on the stab incidence and/or elevator neutral, just in case some is needed to balance the control feel up and down.
