Not a CL item, but we feel fairly protective of the Dyna-Jet as "ours"

Jet-Powered Go-Kart

filed under dealsIf you've always wanted to own a rickety, in-need-of-welding jet-powered go-kart, you sadly just missed you chance, as this New Zealand-based auction for just that very thing closed last night. With such reassuring features as "no brakes," "need of further repairs," and "flame-throwing afterburner," (Safety first!), let's hope the new owner takes up the seller's option of a complete rebuild and re-tune for the extra $250NZ. Actually, this was on www.gizmodo.com site. Photo of this guy in a go-kart with a glowing red monster dynajet above and behind him! Helmet and ear-protectors very evident!

You mean that thing on the back isn't painted red? I like the cooking gas tank mounted behind the driver, too.

I thought there was a thread on pulse jets a while back on this BBS. I don't think a pulse jet powered go-kart is all that dangerous, or need necessarily go all that fast (though the no brakes part gives me pause). Check out:

Incidentally, there was an item on the gizmodo site about sugar-cube sized fuel cells that could power a laptop, or two soda can sized ones that could power a house. One problem was the operating temperature - 500 degrees centigrade!
