Since Remi Beringer's 3rd place finish finish at the WC I've had some inquiries as far as plan availibilty. Over the past few years I've offered plans for this model after Chris Cox and I decided to build identical models as our first step into the use of Saito 4 strokes. After building the models that were not quite up to our expectations, due to possibly lack of information, I decided to keep up the crusade. I gravitated to the Beringer Sukhoi as I felt the slightly bigger model would be better. I also liked the fact that it was not an in-line design, which at the time, was believed to cause the less than satisfactory performance.
In looking at some pictures of a more recent model that Remi was using in Europe, I commented to Chris that I thought they had modified the original design. At the WC in Muncie Chris talked to Gilbert and Remi about the Sportster and indeed I was correct in thinking that the Sportster did indeed get modified to use the larger Sukhoi wing and also use a lowered wing position and raised stab as I suspected. I'm the process of redoing the plans I offered to show these changes, along with a change in the control system which also contributed to some of the problems that Chris and I originally encountered.

Alan,
I have a set of plans for the original Sporster. Could you please summarize the changes to the controls and the wing area?
Thanks,

If your going to build one.
Make a note of the correct spelling.

Its SPORSTER.

Not SPORTSTER.

Oops. I usually spell check, but neither Sporster nor Sportster are in my dictionary!

Hi Pat,
First off the wing on the Sukhoi is about 80 square inches larger. The span is the same at 1500mm or 59.055 in. The larger wing has a root rib that is 38.6 cm, or 15.19 inches if you continue the trailing edge to the wing center line and the tip rib is 17 cm or 6.69 in. in length. The leading edge taper is 3.4 cm or 1.33 in.
As far as location is concerned the centerline of the wing is moved down 15.875 mm from the fuselage centerline and thrustline of the engine. The tail is moved up 34.9 mm from the thrustline. The larger wing is also thicker with a max thickness of 66 mm at the root and 25 mm at the tip. The tail moment is also 25.4 mm longer on the Sukhoi. I suggest lengthening the nose by 19 mm to reduce the need for noseweight. The bellcrank is larger with a 100 mm line spacing and 37.5 mm arm. Flap horn length is 30 mm from the bellcrank and 25 mm length for the elevator pushrod. Elevator horn length is 20 mm.
In order to get the moments correct the fuselage has to be lengthened to accomodate the larger wing root dimension and the hinge line to hinge line dimensions.
The plane still has to be built very lightly with max weight of 1750 grams for the larger version and 1500g for the smaller one.

Did anyone happen to take a look at the bottom of the wings on the berringer models??

They were running things close to the highpoint to disprupt the airflow. The Beegee, the twin and the Sukhio.

only on the bottom tho.

Tricky devils. Didnt escape My eye tho

Pat.. You were correct I was jsut informing everyone that its SPORSTER
