Fox 35 Radial Mount

Don't know who made them, but I got a radial/shock mount for a Fox 35 that bolts up to the rear cover screws on the engine and is mounted to the firewall through isolation grommets. I've never used it. Has anyone tried this set-up....and with what results?

According to the plans, Bob Palmer's Mars used that engine...

If I remember correctly, the Mars did not have a separate add-on mounting plate but simply used longer screws through the backplate mounting the engine direct to the firewall. It seemed like a good idea but again, from memory, I seem to recall getting to the tank would be a pain.

You're right about the Mars installation. Fox did, however make a radial mount for the free flight guys that was just a flat plate that used countersunk screws into the crankcase to mount it to the motor. The standard backplate was retained. I have one of these and plan to use it when I build my Mars kit. I will then be able to use blind nuts in the firewall and mount the engine from the front. K&B also made a similar mount for the greenhead 29 and 35.

A friend of mine tried the rubber radial mount on a Barnstormer/OS FP40. It shhok till it looked like two glow plugs. He replaced the rubber with maple wood. All was OK after that.
