Anybody know Tom Neibuhr?

Hi all - there is a photo of a couple of planes on the AJT laser site (www.ajtlaser.com). One of them belongs to Tom. The other belongs to a friend of his.

I'd like to know the identity of these aircraft. Tom's was identified as a "tophatter". Can anyone verify this? Does anyone know what the other airplane? If not, can someone put me intouch with Tom so that I might ask him?

I believe that Tom's plane is the "Top Hat".... one of his own designs, sort of air race era retro. Nice flyer!

Tom lives in Texas, and is in the PAMPA directory.

His passion is Classic era stuff, and he has a warm spot for John D'Ottavio's "J.D. Falcon".

Peabody's information is correct. Here is a better shot of Tom and his "Top Hat" taken at this year's Nats.

Just adding a little more..
Peabody is also right about my "warm spot" for John D'ottavio's "JD Falcon" For my money it is up there with the best of the Classics! The version I have flown for the last 8 or 10 years is the 1961 version. The airplane as published in the April 1961 Model Airplane News was incorrect! A victim of rushed publication. The M.A.N. version was clubby looking and many of the dimensions were wrong, including the span of the wing & stab, the airfoil,(2 views of the root section did not agree with each other!) and the rudder. If you compare the plans to the pictures, you can actually see some of the differences in the photos that accompany the article.
My "Falcon" was built from John's actual templates.
We are working on the "correct" plans and laser ribs to this also. Like I said... So much to do... so little time.

Hey, I'm here!
Peabody is right and wrong! The airplane is my "Top Hat" but while I occasionally fly Classic, it is far from my passion.. I love to fly PAMPA (AMA?) stunt.
The "Top Hat" has evolved over several years and the newest version is ready for assembly as we speak. I have been asked for plans by many people and the ink on mylar drawing is about 90% complete. Hope to publish the airplane soon.
The airplane that John D'Ottavio is holding is the "Silencer", powered by a ST.60. John and I designed the airplane together. We are currently revising it slightly to accept the PA series of piped engines. I still have to work on the permanent drawings. (More to do than time allows!)
Both airplanes are superb flyers with the "Silencer" being simpler to build.
We already have laser ribs available for both airplanes.

Warren, thanks for the great picture of the "Top Hat" at the Nats. I'll contact you about it.
