OS .15 LAS

We have a lot of discussion on the forum about OS .25, .40, and.46 LA engines, but what about the .15LAS engines. Are they as user friendly, and powerful as the rest of the LA family? Heaven knows I have enough .15 engines, but I just want one. Since I plan on retiring in about 5 more years, I intend to be prepared, with plenty to do. Another engine will help insure that!

I have one in a newly finished little ship that we'll test fly later today, if the rain holds off. Let you know more tonight. It should be a good one.

These are great little motors. In fact, I am running one on a full size Ringmaster right now. It works well on 52 ft lines, and a dry weight of 22 ounces. And, very quiet using the stock muffler.

Im contemplating a small Stunter with a .15

Just to see if it will stunt. FULL scaled down version of a pattern ship.

Yes,...and NO. Paul Walker flew the B-17 at the 2001 World Champs in France. But it had .15FP-S engines. And he placed 9th. I forgot the "Flip Index" data, but it was something on the order of 4.2 flips per official flight. I'm happy to say that I've seen both of Paul's B-17's fly on several occasions. Incredible project, superbly executed. Twins pale in comparison. Steve

Dang gummit, the wind was high early in the afternoon, and then we ran out of day to test fly it. But I did get to fire it up. It started on the third flip, tuned right up and ran like stink. I have a chip muffler of Leonard's on it, so it is pretty barky. It will fly the little Challenger very handily, I think, at 17 ounces. We should get another chance to fly it this week.

I have a LA-S .15 but I hesitate to comment because all I've done with it so far is bench run it a few times. It is typical OS, started easily and ran well. Ready for air.

Don, I finally got to fly the thing. Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful! Did I tell you that I'm really happy with the 15LA and the Challenger? Runs a steady fat 2-stroke and quits cleanly. Has a Brodak 2.5oz uniflow tank to open air and one of Leonard's chip mufflers. OS venturi and NVA. Sig 10% nitro 50/50 oil fuel. Master Airscrew 8-4 prop. Will try an APC when I get another chance.

Plane flies level and tracks beautifully through loops and has good tension overhead. Fast, but not so much to drill you into the ground. Lines 52' .012.

Dan Banjok has one of these on a Midwest Magician 15. Always a diversion to see the pattern burned at slow combat speeds. The motor is s sweatheart, neary a burp or a cut. I've seen him cut the figures with this little demon for the last two years. Sometimes with the wind gusting hard at the crazy unpredictable angles typical for our field. It starts in one flip and sounds the same buzzy note time after time.
