What engines were used 2004 W.C

Im not sure if anyone will find this useful or not.
Ive collected several bits of information whilst at the world Champs and I can give u the list of the top 15 and engines used.

Werwage : PA .61 - Pipe
Walker : Saito .72
R.Beringer : Saito .56
G.Beringer : 2 x Saito .40
Yokoyama : PA .61 - Pipe
Fancher : RO JETT .61 - Pipe

Zhang : Retro .60
De Jong : ST 51
Nogome : OS .70 4 Stroke
Xin Ping : Saito .56

I hope this isnt wrong, I talked to many of the flyers and questioned them on the Powerplants Used, If anyone disagree's please make the correct changes.

Another "interesting" Point to come out of the world champs is this :
Did anyone notice that 1st, 2nd and 3rd all used "radial cowl" style front ends, with regular propnut style snub spinner??

*scratches chin.. * coincidence?? maybe... Maybe not....

Radial cowls in the 1st three places perhaps indicate just a current design trend (semi-scale), but a more significant conclusion that can be made from your list is that all three power systems (4-stroke, pipe, muffled 2-stroke) can all be made to run well and deliver very competitive performance. Each system, of course, has its own tricks, and requires knowledge and experience to make it run that way.

I was thinking of doing all 62 Compeditors..
However, looking at the list of names...... I would need MASSIVE help, and To be honest, I cant rememeber what everyone was flying..

Is semi scale going to dominate 2000's like Pipes did in the 90's or are 4 strokes the "new pipe"?

4 strokes are definitely " In The House." Saito 4 stroke's very simply; provide an outstanding mix of quality, economy, durability, affordability, availability, power to weight, and adaptibility that in my opinion, make them a relatively easy choice in 4 stroke precision aerobatics power.

Agreed, in that if you want a four-stroke, get a Saito.

It's the first that has caused me a lot of wonderment over the latter.

I've given four-strokes a pretty good shot.

Will be going back to a two-stroke with next Impact.

Thanks. Just don't look too closely. Model has had a real hard life. But it photographs well...

Yellow is transparent Micafilm. All else is MonoKote.

As an aside, during the "Elias Gonzalez Affair" I would call my mother and we would have a rousing laugh about the whole thing. We were joking about how all a sudden, some 5 year kid has put us on the map!! Prior to that, it was Al Pacino and his portrayal of Tony Montana in Scarface. Interestingly enough, just recently, I happen to have been sitting close Al Pacino at a cafe in CA. It looked like he was preparing for a script with someone. All I was thinking was, this cat sitting across me probably did more damage to us Cubans with that portrayal than Castro!

Which, if you think about it, is not so "only" - 33% is a pretty good fraction, considering the large number of possible choices.

What I took away from the event, in terms of equipment, is that having a system that you can understand and make the most of is far more important that what type of system it is or what it's ultimate technical performance might be. As opposed to jumping on the latest bandwagon just because it's the latest bandwagon.

What I took out of it this..

The 4 strokes performed NO BETTER in the wind than the Pipes. As a general rule I didnt find the retro's that powerful, due to the planes that they were in were ULTRA light.

I was most impressed with Dave fitzgeralds PA 61. 5.5 sec laps, TOTAL penetration.. VERY impressive and i hate tuned pipes, but that display made me want to switch back...

Then again, walkers .72 was very impressive, or was it the man on the handel doing those BLINDING 4ft pullouts in 30 kt wind..

Anyway, i agree with you brett.. Get something that you KNOW and you can USE to make you perform at your peak. EVERY time.
