Nats Appearance Judging 2004

For those who may not have seen Appearance Judging Day at the Nats- this hopefully will give some idea. To see this many beautiful planes all spiffed up under one roof is just mind-boggling! Best regards, dale gleason Addendum-It's tough to count'em, maybe 65 or so, but there was a total of 129, give or take a few.

I can tell this picture was taken before the judging, since my Fazer is near the middle of the pack. After judging, it was waaaaay at the back...

What's not immediately apparent is that this is only about half of them! I don't think we have ever seen anything quite like this before. There's no way we could have done this in the Armory, or even less, the country club.

It was also done in *remarkably* short order -less time than it usually takes with 1/2 the entries. And I heard no complaints. Good show by Phelps and Reeves!

That's about the size of the courtyard at VSC, only more planes. ONly thing more excitingis to be there and in the sunshine where they really glisten.

?? The entire event is subjectively judged - appearance AND flight. Changing so that, say, you didn't judge appearance for some reason, isn't going to alter that basic fact.

All im saying is , like everything else subjective.. its open to interpretations. Thats all.

You should be able to look down the rows and see planes of equal skill level in finishing. There were some rows where, it was obvious the people doing it just said " ##### that will do " and moved on.

It needed to take longer to do, i heard someone say it took alf as long as it normally takes to process that if there were 1/2 as many planes.
I think it equated to less than 1 minute for everyone... How can that be unilaterally fair?

Let's forget about thinking it could be unfair. The judges have a BIG job and do it well!!

My fear is that if the anti BOM people win, we will never see all these airplanes in one place again. This is a tradition at the NATS and VSC that is nothing short of spectacular. It shows our event in the best possible way.

If you ask people to only present their airplanes for Concours, you will only see a handful of airplanes in the lineup! What a shame that would be!

I found it interesting that the aeroplanes that flew in the World Championships were very nice looking....

That's of course part of the game - where you spend your time, effort, and weight is up to the competitor.

I said that, among others. But I have heard *far* fewer complaints about the accuracy of the results this year than in many others.Nobody got knocked out of the contest as the result of it.

I never said it impacted the event.
I chose to view it as a seperate event.
Bottom line is, 10 point seperate last and 1st in the appearance judging.
This 10 points impacts very little on a 500+ score. Im not complaining about anything, other than I spent 120 airbrushing a model........ *mutter* ill stop there..

I loved the experience.. The judging was fair, and I felt like they were generous awarding me 11 points, I clearly deserved 10.

- Make no mistake im not saying 1st - 15th wasnt where they should have been. I applaude The bear and the A-26 Both were excellent examples of people who really knew how to paint a model.

Really? I've always felt the A-26 looks quite a lot like an older woman with way too much make-up.

Tremendous effort expended, no doubt. Pleasing to a lot of people, again no doubt.
