Excellent pictures again! Is that a P-26 fuse on the truck? The Me-109 doesnt look right, maybe a converted spit? Nice pictures! Now I have to go back and look at the civilian ones! Thanks soo much for sharing!

Yep. It's a P-26. I didn't read all the info on how the project was progressing though. The 109 is one of the Spanish built versions with a Merlin engine. It definitely screws up the looks of the nose somewhat but finding operational DB 605's is just about impossible. I think there is one Spanish built version flying in Europe that has had the Merlin replaced with a German engine.

The Spanish 109 was called the Hispano M1l Buchon?
Gabrielle Macri and X_List have a plan for the Picador - a 52" span semi-scale stunter based on it designed by F Batilo - it shows a Frog 500 and has a detachable (banded on) wing!
I recollect another strange engined variant of the ME109 that was a pig to fly - can anyone refresh my memory on it?

I think there was another country that had a variant with a Junkers Jumo powerplant.

Hi Bruce. The BF 109's used by the Spanish Air Force were all repowered with Rolls-Royce engines. Seems the originals, Mercedes, were no longer available due to some drastic remodeling of the factories some time in the 1940's. During my first criuse to the Med we were involved in "war games" in which the Spanish Air Force "attacked" our carrier battle group. They cheated and used BF 109's, HE 110's, and some wood and canvas biplanes that did not show up on radar!! When we signalmaen reported them off our port beam at 6,000 yards, the OOD did not believe us until they flew over. I wish I had a photo of his jaw hitting the deck. Those same planes , plus some very large RC versions by Dave Platt of the the JU 87's were used in the movie, "Battle Of Britian", a great flying movie for aviation buffs. Several of the Spanish BF 109's were sold off when they finally went to jets. I belive their Army still wears the Wehrmact (whatever) "coal bucket" helmets. Sure was a shock to see those in Barcelona in 1964!! But then I remembered about the Condor Legion and the Spanish Civil War, and who helped who and who won. Ah, history.
