BOM again

I know this has been beatin to death but I have a different twist on it. If I have the cash I can buy a carbon fiber fuse with the engine moounts in place and the holes drilled for whatever engine I'm using, I can then order a wing and tail feathers for that fuse fully sheeted and all hardware installed including adjustable leadouts and tip weight box, all I have to do is assemble it! Then after I assemble it I can then send it out and have it painted by someone who knows what they are doing and I end up with a model that is top quality but did I really build it?! I didn't do any of the hard work all I did was assemble it and someone else did the hard work. The reason I'm bringing this up again is an old articale in FM about Robbie Hunt and the first model he and his dad (Bob) built the RD-1 Robbie didn't do much on that model,I know he was there through the learning process but Bob built most of that model and painted it and the AMA said that's ok as long as Robbie was part of the process it's ok.Boy what a liberal interpretation of the rules! So if I get this right I can buy anything I want assemble it send it out and have it painted and this constitutes a BOM? With the specialty markets I can buy anything, so what constitutes a BOM.

Dwayne, I made an error of judgment in another post by not thoroughly reading the Old Time stunt rules. Too many do the same with the Builder of the model rule. There are phrases in this rule (I am paraphrasing now, not quoting word for word) that say "completely build" the model "with no more prefabrication than what is found in an average kit". ARFs are not kits, but pre-built models. What you are proposing is thus clearly out of the rules. There are fine points to anything, technicalities, "How far can I go?" questions. There will always be in any event. And there will be people who will innocently go beyond the rules because they thought what they were doing was correct.

In any case, buying components is not in the spirit of the law nor is it in the letter of the law (or the rules in this case.)
