Who welds engine lugs?

I have a nice Torpedo .32 that needs some restoration on the left side mounting lug. Front hole is broken out and the rear is cracked. I know there are people that can fix this but I don't know who they are. Anyone have any leads? Thanks.

Find someone locally that does TIG welding on aluminum. If they are used to doing small work, they can fill it in for you. You will have to file it back to shape and re-drill the hole.

It would be best if you disassemble the engine and just send the crankcase to the welder. Heat the engine to 300 degrees f and disassemble it hot. hold it down with a potholder when you take it apart. The heat lets the screws come out very easily. Onlt take out the two screws that hold the cylinder to the crankcase. That way the cylinder and head comes off as a unit.(and you will save your headgasket. you will probably have to make a new crankcase gasket.

Maybe JB WELD would work on this. Has anyone tried it?

JB Weld doesn't work in this application.....I tried it on another engine several years ago and it went to pieces when I tried cinching down the mounting bolt.

You might try Frank Bowman, don't know if he still does this type of work
