Plan Wanted:

For Goldberg Scat Rat. Hope someone out there has it.

political correctness, known or unknown, I am not sorry and I encourage you
to get over it.

If I remember right it was a typical Goldberg plan,i.e. an isometric. Certainly it has no full sized parts. I liked that plane a lot. It was cheap and fast with a ST40RV in it in 1967.

It was also very rugged design. I had one way back when, and as I recal the plan was full size. However, as is commonly known, memory is often the second thing to go (lol).

I have a RR ST. 40 and a Fox 40BB I can use.

Scat Rat plans have been located. Thanks to Leonard for this valuable service. It's much appreciated.

Did Leonard have it in his plans archive? I don't see it listed. I'd like a set if he has them.

Another member of SSW had a kit which is on its way to me. The plan is full size as I remembered.

I'm curious what you're going to use it for, since it doesn't fit any current racing events. Sport flying, local club racing? I'm building a profile rat to use as a "trainer" for learning to fly clockwise to control torque roll in speed.

NOS RR - we used to fly a marathon 1400 lap rat race event around here. The Scat Rat was one of the models I used to have along with an original design rat racer. Some of us are interested in reliving the event the way it was although we may have to limit things to 500 laps due to our maturity (lol).

I was too dumb back then to save the Scat Rat plan.

Here's a picture from the olden days. That's me on the left with a Gold Fox 40BB RR. The fellow on the right occasionally stops by here as well.

500 laps is nothing, you should do at least 2000.

I have forgotten the year, it had to be mid-60's, KC hosted a 5000 lap race. Seems like 2-3 hours to run it, a real endurance contest for airplanes, engines, pilots and pit crew alike. Most didn't finish (obviously). Some burned up their engines. We used a NIB Golden Fox .40, put a little toothpaste in it and broke it in during the race--no doubt shortened its life considerably, but it sure was running well at the end. I wonder why these races never caught on?

I believe that it will fit the "Texas Quickie Rat" plane criteria. There are also engine restrictions in that event. I don't fly trhat event, so I could be wrong.

Did you ever get the planes for the Skat Rat Yet? I can have a copy made for you as I am working on getting two of them ready for the Texas Quicky Rat event. A little practice and maybe I could fly one. Right now I do the pitting while someone else flies. e=mail - [email protected] Later, DOC

Forget 500 or 2000 laps. If this holds together for 140, you've done well.

Hey Paul Smith. Back when we were kids and were a team in Rat my Scat Rat exploded in mid air at "Rouge Park". Do you remember . How 'bout those 1000 lap races we did , with Kilsdonk in a leg cast , and Archie and Dave with their pink airplanes . JIM DROSS

I had an OUTLAW RAT, and a QUICKY RAT, also an all-wood homebuilt. The OUTLAW and QUICKY both wore our in practice and never made it to a race.

The homebuilt came in third place in a race with 24 entries.
Reason: I did not test it until race-day.

From then on, it was PAN-RATS 100%. Royal Rodent, Regal Raider, and about 5 home-builts with Harter pans. I still have one, flyable. Did 150 MPH with a healthy K&B Series 71.

I pitted a Scat Rat down in Florida in 1973. Finished the race OK. Engine did not have the power to tear it apart in 10 miles.

What did you guys use for glue, bubble gum? The Skat Rat airframe looks very rugged to me if built correctly using proper wood and alum pads under the engine. You can't use 5lb. in them & get away with that. I flew one that I finally retired after many races.
