Wanted - drive plate for a Cub .049

A friend splattered a model of mine that had a Cub .049 on it. The plane is a total, but no real loss. However, that was my best Cub (Oxymoron?) and believe it or not, the prop drive plate bent! Crank is OK, the rest of the engine fine, but the support for the prop is now 10 degrees out of line.

Anyone got a really shot Cub around I can scrounge the part from?

Check with Brodak. He has some Cub parts and, although not listed in the catalogue, might have that one. Otherwise, someone was still assemblng these engines out of original parts. I have a feeling they might still be available.

Larry, I am sure that you are aware that OK is still in business and sells parts for most of there .049's you can get them on the net OK ENGEERING.

Another option ( seeing as they get $6.50 for shipping) is a trade. I have a Cub .049 with good compression, and I need a couple Babe Bee tank backplates, are you interested? I'll send you the whole engine ( see pic) in trade if you have a couple servicable backplates.

Thanks, but I really don't have that many parts kicking around, and I would not only still need a drive plate, I'd have yet another Cub that needs reworking. So, an interesting offer, but I'll pass.

Yea!!!! I think I found a drive plate like you need. If your cub 049 is like the one in the picture provided by Bill Neher, then I have one. Uh-oh....it is still attached to the rest of the engine, that isn't really any good nor is to be used in the foreseeable future. So-- How do I get the drivewasher off? If nothing else I will send the engine to you, you can take the drive washer off, and then send the engine back to me. No snickers anyone... I assume it is a press fit; is there a simple trick to getting it off? BTW, let me know your address via my email -- [email protected] and I will prepare to trust this to the USPS.

You can easily use a regular Cox .049 prop drive on the Cub .049 engines ...... you do need to first bore out the Cox driver's ID to proper size so the drive will press fit onto the somewhat bigger (than Cox) Cub .049 crank's spline, I forget the exact size but it is a regular drill bit size. I have done many OK Cub .049 engines like this, works great and actually gets the prop-drive back near the actual front shaft where it should be for best efficiency, or less chance of prop wobble and premature front bearing wear.
