Is this a G21.35 or a C.35 (i.e., has it got balls?) Makes a difference.

It is a plain bearing 35.

Ralph,
I have both. I am using my G 21 .35 now and it really runs well. What are the run characteristics of the C .35 and will it make a stunt engine.

The most fascinating characteristic of the ST C.35 engine was that it frequently needed no battery to start! In the 70s, we flew combat, fast and slow with these engines using Harry Roe's Ro-Go 40% nitro/22% UCon-oil fuel and with a cold (blue) Thunderball plug they'd start pretty reliably on a prime with no battery attached. This was very disconcerting until we got used to it.

As far as stunt use, both the C.35 and the G21.35 really seemed to prefer running a "wet" 2-cycle, a la OS LA series engines. The most satisfactory combo I remember was a Magician/G21.35 with a TopFlite 11-4 cut to 10½" and 10% nitro fuel. Launch rpm around 10K, I think (this was 30 years ago). BTW, the performance envelopes of the two engines were almost identical. The C.35 often seemed to have a slight edge (and was a full ounce lighter, which may have been the edge . . .) but the G21.35 maintained its performance longer and broke in faster.

BTW, I still have two G21.35s, one NIB from about 1975 (no muffler lugs, but room to drill the case); the other is the first version imported to the US, which has a removeable front bearing housing like the K&B Series 71 engines. The latter engine is definitely not NIB! It has very good compression, but the bearings are shot. I keep meaning to call Boca Bearings, but it hasn't percolated up the priority list, yet.

Thanks for the skinny on the two ST .35s. I think I'll stick the C .35 in the same plane the G21/.35 is in and observe first hand. I was under the impression they only wanted to run full out. (flat out?)

I think you'll enjoy this engine. They're like the "Energizer Bunny"; they keep going and going . . . .
