I'm looking for anything regarding the Top Flight - "TUTOR "
Kit, -- plans, info, articles, is there a "KIT" out there????

Plans are available from your Forum Host and the kit can be sometimes found on E-BAY. Other forum members might even have an extra one "for sale".

I have a 20+ year old Tutor. It can perform quite well if kept reasonably light, which means NOT a kit! Mine weighs 42 oz. (including 2 oz. tail weight; this after shortening the nose by 1-½ inches) with an OS .35S, and is way too heavy, and thus a marginal performer (except when Klapinski is the pilot).

Remember, this is a small plane, only 410 sq. in. Max weight should be in the 30 - 36 oz. range, and this can be done with reasonable wood selection and finish. BTW, mine has MicaFilm on the wings and SIG dope on the solid surfaces; a fairly lightweight finish.

At recommended weight, it should do well with an OS .25 LA or maybe an FP. Did I mention that you shouldn't try too hard to get a kit? Get the plans from Tom Dixon.

Unless you just have to have a Tutor, there are better choices out there.

I flew through several and never had a really good one. Even with a monocote/dope finish, they end up too heavy for the wing to carry.
Even run-of-the-mill Twisters are better than Tutors, because of the superior airfoil.

I have allways been a fan of Bobby Hunt's Prowler. Another smallish, 35-sized profile but blessed with a much better airfoil, and moments. It's a proven contest performer in the hands of even an adverage flyer, if kept light. Plans are available and any classic 35 will provide plenty of power. (I'd suggest an OS-35S or the ST-35S.)

Since you'll have to scratch build the Tutor, why not build something better? Someone just gave me the parts to build a Mathis 'Coyote" and that's a WORLD better than a Tutor and there are about 100 other good choices available!

If you want a Prowler or Coyote plan, can send you one.
