At the Sig contest about eight years ago, some of us Carrier flyers were standing around just after dark, rolling up lines, telling tall tales, etc, when I turned to a new subject: String theory or TOE, the "theory of everything". This happens often when I'm around Pete Mazur, physicist at the Fermi Lab, near Chicago. An obviously drunk fellow had stopped by a few times to listen in, but had contributed nothing- but seemed as though he had something to say. Pete's experiments had to do with calculating the mass of the universe to determine if it would collapse or continue expanding. Did I mention that Pete has won the coveted Eugene Ely Perpetual Carrier Trophy about a dozen times? Pete is just about to make a point on the energy of a newly discovered entity (neither quark nor neutrino) when this previously mentioned guy says he has a question for Dr. Mazur. "If you guys are so smart, then answer me this- why do two flammable elements, hydrogen and oxygen, when combined, form a substance that won't burn, namely-water?!" Pete replied, "Well, my good man, for beginners, oxygen isn't flammable!". To which the man replied, "and you call yourself a scientist?", and disapeared into the darkness.
