Why does the Chicken Cross the Road

It seems that all the jokes I have posted here have been lost, at least I cannot find any of them with the search function. You may recall this one, which is my only original joke.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To show the possum that it can be done.

I originated this joke in 1995 or '96. Today saw someone had sent it in to the March 2002 Readers Digest. I was so proud!

You realize that there are folks reading this joke who won't get it at all, don't you? I don't remember seeing it or hearing it before, but I did enjoy it just now, so you should be proud of its creation!

Armadillo= Possum on the half shell. How many Texans does it take to eat an Armadillo? Two, one has to direct traffic.

Mother used to give me a quarter for each armadillo I would kill as they played heck with her garden. We would skin them out and hang them up on the fence for the chickens to peck. In a couple of hours there would be only a skeleton left.
