Riddle#0 source
A farmer goes to market with a sack of grain, a hen, and his dog. When he comes to the river he finds the only way to cross is to use a small raft. The problem is that the raft is just large enough for him and one other thing. How does he get himself, the hen, the sack of grain, and the dog across with out the hen eating the grain or the dog eating the hen?

One version:

He leaves the dog and grain while he takes the hen across and leaves it on the other side, then rows back alone.
He next takes the grain across and leaves it while he picks up the hen and rows back with the hen.
He leaves the hen and picks up the dog and brings it across, then rows back alone.
Last trip: He picks up the hen and brings it across.

Now the hen starts after the grain and the dog starts after the hen and the man is too tired from all that rowing to do anyting about it.

Next question: How does he get the boat back just in case someone has a fox, a hound, and a chicken that they want to bring over?

Good job Leonard.
I should have known it wouldn't have been much of a challenge to you.

In answer to your question
If he's a good farmer he won't send the raft back until he gets the best price for his hen and grain.
