Just trying to get a drink

Three pieces of rope were standing outside a bar looking at the sign on the door which read:

WE DON'T SERVE ROPE

The first piece of rope says " Aw the heck with that sign, I'm going in to get me a drink." Bartender takes one look at him and says, "HEY! You're rope! We don't serve rope, Get out!" At which time the rope turns and high-tails it out the bar and back to his friends.

Second piece of rope tells the first piece he must have said something to offend the bartender and to watch as he shows them "how it's done." The bartender, now with fire in his eyes, looks at him and says "didn't I just kick you out?! WE DON'T SERVE ROPE! Now get out!" At which time the second piece of rope tucks his tail between his legs (?) and runs out of the bar.

The third piece of rope, witnessing first hand the failed attempts of his two friends, gets an idea. "guys, tie me up, then ruffle up my ends." Third piece nows goes into the bar. Bartender looks at him but has a somewhat puzzled look, "Aren't you rope?"

To which the third piece replys: "Nope, I'm a frayed knot"
